Pros: Not habit forming, relative low cost to diet drugs
Cons: Comes only in vanilla flavor, doesn't mix well, chalky
The Bottom Line: I think if you can tolerate the taste, it may do you some good. It did help curb cravings.

| CRXLover88's Full Review: Satietrol Natural Appetite Control |
EDITED: August 16, 2001 - Satietrol now comes in chocolate flavor also. It tastes just a little better than the vanilla, that's all I can say about it.....Oh, it's better ice cold too....After numerous attempts during my lifetime to get the extra pounds off, I know there is no such thing as “easy”. Unfortunately, there is no magic pill. I had lost several pounds doing SugarBusters, but I had been plateauing for quite a while. So I decided to try a new product called Satietrol, a vanilla flavored powder that you mix with 6 to 8 ounces of water and drink 15 minutes before you eat a meal. For my diet plan since quitting SugarBusters, I’ve just been watching calories and fat grams (1700 calories, 30 or less fat grams per day).
Satietrol comes in vanilla and chocolate flavors and the taste is really horrible. Chalky and gritty. It does not mix easily; I have to use a Rival hand blender. Satietrol is packaged in 42 individual packets that can easily be toted to work. I use them before lunch and dinner as those are my troublesome meals for overeating. Used this way, the box of Satietrol lasts 3 weeks. Each packet contains 80 calories and 3 fat grams, so you have to factor this into your daily fat and calorie count.
According to researchers Satietrol is the first product developed to extend your body’s natural appetite control mechanism. After eating a large meal, a protein called CCK is released into the intestine which acts on the nerves in the stomach lining, telling your brain that your stomach is full. CCK also slows the movement of food from your stomach so you feel full longer, as well as working on the appetite control center in the brain. The ingredients in Satietrol mimic the effects of eating a large meal, so CCK is released. Therefore, by taking Satietrol 15 minutes before your meal, you are already feeling full as you start eating.
In one of Satietrol’s clinical studies, 115 people used Satietrol for 6 weeks. The average weight loss of the 115 people was 8.82 pounds with some losing up to 15 pounds. In my OWN study, (not clinical) which has now been going on for 4 weeks, I have lost 7 pounds. I have had no hunger cravings at all. Clinical studies also showed that the effects of Satietrol do not diminish over a period of time, unlike diet pills like Meridia (tried those too – all Meridia did was raise my blood pressure and empty my wallet).
Satietrol costs approximately $35.00 for 42 packets. I bought mine from QVC (qvc.com) – I have also found it at netrition.com. Doing a “search” for Satietrol will probably result in several other sources for this product.
If you can get past the awful taste, this product may do you some good.
EDIT - In August 2001, I also found this at IHerb.com - the cheapest yet.
