| alphaproject's Full Review: Saucony Progrid Triumph Shoes Wh/Bk/Ry for Men |
Sometimes your feet get used to shoes and you naturally think they aren't that comfy anymore UNTIL you go to try on brand new shoes that suck.
This is the case of my day today.
I tried on just about every new shoe out there from Mizuno, Saucony, Nike, and Adidas and nothing was feeling like this model of Triumphs especially Saucony's new Triumph 5 or the terrible new version of the Trigon "Ride".
I'd say that since the first Triumph shoe, Saucony has changed alot and has completely changed the shoe.
At first it was a more solidly built shoe. Better support, better build quality, but it suffered from a more solid ride for lighter runners. I bought them for really cheap, so it was no big deal to me but they are no where near the pillows that are the Triumph 4's.
I'd say everything about the T4's are worse except what is important, the fit, the comfort, and cushion.
Saucony made a milestone with the first Triumph in build quality. They run like brand new for me years later. I'm not a long runner, but the cushion has not worn down much at all. The tread, claiming to be the same on the T4 is much more durable as is the medial arch support.
Luckily I found another show that is slightly in between those 2 versions of the Triumph. (1st Gen and 4th gen)
The Saucony Propel Plus.
I'll be getting those in the mail shortly, already tried them on, love em.
So what's good about the T4's though, is the cushioning system. Your foot sinks into the middle of the Super Rebound Compound. The front has ample amount of cushion, however is lacking in tread compared the 1st gen. Saucony used to have the longest wearing tread I've ever seen....not so much anymore. Either they are cheapening out on me, or they are lightening their shoes and making them softer for lighter runners. I guess heavy people can stick to the Hurricanes or New Balance.
The rear XT-900 seems more like XT-600. What should be hard wearing rubber feels like blown rubber which is in the forefoot.
I've worn the 1st gen triumphs longer and the tread of actually less worn than my 4th gens.
Still.....after buying the Triumph 5's for a cheaper price on ebay, I've found the Triumph 4's are a special, special shoe. The heel unit is about the best that can be delivered. It's held up years of use and still works as intended. The front is getting a bit worn down and doesn't offer as much cushion as the Propel NxGen shoes, but the heel unit will probably outlast the Propels since it uses the SRC which the Propels do not...it's just a huge wad of CMEVA cushion and allows your foot to sink straight into the middle of all the rear pads.
