I don't think the book is surpassed by the movie version at all; they complement each other without the usual "book vs. movie version" conflicts that often arise when a screenwriter adapts a novel for a screenplay.

It's really worth reading, although it's no less painful to read as the movie is to watch, if you catch my meaning.

Although I've heard it's not as good as the movie. Great movie, although I have found it painful to watch. (I mean that in a good way, if you understand my meaning.)

Thanks for the review. Will try to remember to pick it up eventually.

The film would be in my top ten of all time. I'm afraid to read the book for it would surely make me cry even more than the movie does. I really should pick it up.

Nice write up,
Caroline
