Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:A decent blade for taking and keeping an edge.
Cons:Bought out by a large company in 2004 and now made in China.
The Bottom Line: If your looking for a decent twenty dollar knife, this one is OK.
Old Timer Senior Pocket Knife (3 Blades) I received my first Old Timer pocket knife when I was just twelve years old. It was my first knife and it was a gift from my granddad for passing the Hunters Safety Course and getting my hunting license. He showed me how to use it, clean it, sharpen it and keep a light coat of oil on it. I still have that knife. I have also collected a few other Old Timer pocket and skinning knives over the years. I like the quality and the steel that Old Timer uses in their blades. Because of the high quality Steel and the 1% carbon combination, the knife can be sharpened fast and easy and will hold the edge. It's made with high carbon Series 400 steel and will last the average Joe, a lifetime. This knife come with three different blades; the spey blade, the sheep's foot and clip point blade. With this knife you can tackle most any task you run across that requires a pocket knife. It's also a comfortable knife to carry. It only weighs 3.2 ounces and is just four inches long and a half inch wide, when closed up. The Old Timer brand was purchased by Taylor Brands LLC. In 2004. Old Timer (Imperial Schrade) had a good run from 1904 to 2004. The old original knifes have held their value and are a sought after blade for collectors and outdoor enthusiasts. Features & Specs ~ 400 Series High Carbon Steel ~ Proven Quality & Craftsmanship in the Industry ~ Three Different Blades / The Spey, Sheep's Foot and Clip Point ~ Durable Delrin Handle ~ Length 4” Handle / 3” Blade / ½ inch wide / 7” when open ~ Weight 3.2 oz. ~ Limited Lifetime Warranty Conclusion My Old Timer knives were made prior to 2004. So they were Made by Old Timer in the good old USA. After Taylor LLC purchased their name, the manufacturing was shipped over seas. Where the rest of their knives are made. The price and the quality have dropped in the past nine years. They have purchased and own several knife companies; Old Timer, Uncle Henry, Smith & Wesson, Schrade, Sheffield...Taylor even won a contract to supply the U.S. Army with combat knives. Now our soldiers are issued knives that are stamped, MADE IN CHINA. It's a pretty sad state of affairs. I try to buy American made products where I can and if I can afford to. If your in the market for a decent twenty dollar knife made in China, I'd recommend this one. It's getting more and more difficult to find things made in the USA anymore. For the price it's a fair blade. I find the older blades in pawn shops all the time at decent prices. Maintenance Clean with warm soapy water, be sure to completely dry this knife. This knife contains carbon, so be certain it's dry and put a light coat of oil on the knife, pins and blades.
