With my seventh grade playing full contact, tackle football for his middle school, I make sure to do my homework regarding his equipment. While every piece of protective football equipment is mandatory, the most important singular part of the safety part is the helmet. The Schutt Youth Advantage Football Helmet, model 7880 is high quality and safe.
Why Schutt? Schutt Sports is the world’s leading maker of football helmets and face guards. Three out of four professional football players take the field wearing Schutt gear. They are not as well known as the major players in sporting goods, Rawlings, Riddell, Adams, and Wilson but the company has been around since 1918. The Schutt company manufactured the first football face guard in 1935, way before the guard became mandatory to wear. Joe Namath in Super Bowl III was one of the first to wear Schutt face guards. The helmet looks good too, coming in 21 different colors, however our team has the standard white! The training to fit helmets is important, and Schutt has a book and a guide to help coaches and equipment folks to fit the helmets correctly. The air pads make a perfect fit and can be adjusted accordingly. The helmet is safe and comfortable, as if it isn't, the football experience is not a pleasant one and discourages young players from continuing on, playing at higher levels. If they play with confidence, they become solid players, and they must feel protected and safe. The Schutt helmet absolutely does this!
