Pros: Easy to use, comfortable, and affordable
I would hardly consider myself a workout fanatic, so in order for me to commit to a routine, I need it to be simple, painless. When my family purchased the 230 model of the Schwinn Recumbent Bike, surprisingly, I was excited to use it. This was our first time ever purchasing anything by Schwinn, therefore, it’s difficult to know what to expect. I’m pleased to say that we have yet to find fault with it. At the time of purchase, it was on sale for $350. It arrived within a week of our ordering it, and setup was plain and simple. It is a modest size, which enabled us to set it up in our living room at little inconvenience.
The 230 model is somewhat basic compared to other models. However, this model works perfectly fine for our family. The seat is very comfortable and easily adjustable to accommodate more than one height. Attached are handles with grips that measure one’s heart-rate throughout the course of the workout. Underneath the seat is a place to hold a water bottle and a shelf positioned on the LCD computer screen to hold a book or remote. It comes with six programmed settings, allowing one to choose anything from a relaxed “ride in the park,” to a vigorous ride up “pikes peak.” Aside from the six programs, one can also opt for a manual mode, all to customize your workout. This allows one to raise or lower the resistance level, from 1 to 16, at will. In addition to the variety of riding options, this model will also record one’s weight and desired time limit before beginning the workout. During the workout, it records the distance traveled, calories burned, and even one’s heart-rate.
My family and I have been using this bike steadily for two years now and are still getting great results. It easily accommodates all of us, my father, who is 6’5,” myself at 5’3,” and my mother at 5’1.” It has held up magnificently and has shown no signs of stopping anytime soon. Working out seems less of a chore, especially with our bike positioned cozily in front of our television. It is also very quiet, so it doesn’t interfere with other activities like conversation, watching television, or listening to music. All in all, it is an easy and affordable way to work a little cardio into any routine.
