Pros: One of the coolest bikes ever produced
Cons: Not a speed demon, kind of uncomfortable if you are taller than 4'10"
The Bottom Line: Beautiful craftsmanship, retro style coolness...but that price tag...woah!

| sammy_marvelle's Full Review: Schwinn Apple Crate (1999) |
What is the one thing Schwinn does better than anyone else in the market? Cruisers. And the Orange Krate is one more shining example of that. The new Krate line is almost exactly what they were back in the '60's when every kid on the block owned them, minus the shifter that kids were spearing themselves on. One of the few drawbacks to the new run -- they're single speeds.
Another drawback? The $550 price tag. Perhaps the only people that are going to spend that kind of cake on a bike that was originally designed as a kids bike (and retailed for $60 back then) are collectors. Which is something I consider kind of unfortunate, because what bicycle lover's collection is complete without a Krate or a Stingray?
When all is said and done, if you're looking to spend your money on a functional ride, you're looking in the wrong place. However, if you're looking to own a piece of bicycle history and have a lot more money than you know what to do with, you dialed the right number, baby!
