Pros: Great price, looks and acts like a real mountain bike.
Cons: Marginal fork performance, not a great single track handler.
The Bottom Line: Excellent entry-level mountain bike built with the weekend warrior in mind.

| sammy_marvelle's Full Review: Schwinn Mesa |
Although Schwinn has had it's fair share of problems in the past, they are making a strong comeback, especially with their every-day entry level bikes. The Mesa line is a perfect fit for anyone who doesn't want to bomb down 45 degree inclines or aren't concerned about a little added weight. No, the Mesa is designed for the light off-road rider. Maybe someone who thinks they might enjoy mountain biking, but aren't ready to drop $700-1000 on a performance level bike yet.
The only real drawback to the Mesa's are the fork and the components, both of which are prone to wear out with the slightest hint of overuse. But that shouldn't be the main concern when buying a bike. Those components are made to give out before the frame does, and the advantage is, they are very easily replaced and won't break the bank.
If you are considering racing, however, I would advise you to save your money and get something a bit lighter that can take a little more wear and tear. But if you are an average Joe just trying to lose a little weight, or going camping in a remote area, or just want to enjoy a little time in the sun, the Mesa is a killer buy.
