Pros: Durable, long lasting, multipurpose, and fun to ride.
Cons: It's a bit heavy and cheap componets like grips and pedals will need replaced.
The Bottom Line: Just overall a good bike that rides comfortably and smoothly. I'd definatly recommend it to anyone who wants a beginner's MTB

| spinax's Full Review: Schwinn Sidewinder 2.6 FS 26-Inch Mens' All-Terrai... |
I received my Sidewinder about 4 years ago for about $180. I've read plenty of reviews about this bike saying what a crappy cheap piece of garbage it is, but I've really enjoyed this bike. It's a tad heavy but that's because it's got a steel frame. Also I've ridden it on trails, yes I said it, TRAILS! trails trails trails, some of them rather rough. And guess what? It holds up splendidly. I generally ride it to school and around town for recreation. Also, this bike is durable, being able to survive being nearly destroyed by a careless friend (word from the wise: don't let friends borrow your bike). After being repaired by my father and myself, it was ready to go, good as new. And all it needs these days is the occasional scrub after a rough ride and lubrication of the moving parts (but don't all bikes need this??????). My verdict is that either this bike has had been unfairly judged or maybe I just got the one good bike out of millions made. Who knows?
Ok, now for the specs and whether they're good or bad: Frame-Hi ten steel tubed frame- durable, inexpensive, but a bit heavy. Fork- RST Omni 191 50mm travel suspension fork. Absorbs bumps well, but does need greasing to prevent sticking, also isn't adjustable. Rims-aluminum double wall, durable, but remember to keep em' clean! Crankset- SR Suntour crankset, easy to service, overall a good setup. Rear Derailler and Cassete- Shimano SIS 7- gear. You've got to expect good service from Shimano componets. Easy to use and service. Works smoothly. Front Derailler- Shimano- same as above Brakes- Promax brakes and levers, work well and easy to service. Also durable and reliable, trustworthy stopping power when you need it. Saddle- Schwinn men's saddle, soft and comfortable Shirters- SRAM gripshifters- reliable and simple to use.
Notice how I missed a few small componets. This is because these are things I replaced. It's not because they're faulty, but because they're too heavy or don't offer enough grip(pedals and grips)
Handlebars- replaced with Pyramid Aluminum flat bars, lightweight and stronger than the original steel offbrand bars. Pedals- replaced with Diamondback aluminum pedals with stainless steel studs that offer superb grip as opposed to the original plastic ones. Seatpost- replaced with aluminum seatpost and is a bit longer(I'm tall) Grips- replaced with Specialized Body Geometry BG grips, softer and shaped to eliminate finger numbness.
Overall this is a good bike that performs well on the trail or road. I would recommend this to a buddy as a beginner's MTB.
