Pros: Slick and durable,I used other brands and this stuff exceeds them by far.
Cons: none, the best line out there.
The Bottom Line: Both fine lines but the Ultra 3 is the winner.Slicker, and easier to cast in windy situations.Ultra 3 is easy to own because it repels seaweed and dirt.

| illmatrix's Full Review: Scientific Anglers Ultra 3 Fly Line |
After being an avid fan of Cortland products,I was shifty about switching brands.I had only first encountered this line at my local sporting goods store. It was pricy but two bucks cheaper than my cortland 555 line I bought for my 5wt set up.So as I pondered what 6wt line would be best I decided to go ahead and get the Ultra 3 because I was feeling lazy and didnt feel like a drive cross town for fly line.So after setting up my new line i headed outside for a practice run.WOAH!!This stuff shoots easy and fast.Need I add smooth too, well it all of that and then some. It is perfect right out of the box, limp and slick, the cortland line I use needed a "break in" period until I was impressed with it.And as far and float ability, this is it.Cortland boasts it is the highest floating line, only partially true. After long soaks the 555 line starts to sink I would say about 4 hours of fishing and it starts to sink. The Ultra 3 on the other hand floated high all day.And as far as slickness Ultra 3 repels debris its so slick, the 555 needs constant cleaning and maitenance, not bad if you're bored. And that brings me to my final comparison: casting,The vital one,the 555 line is very light almost feather like line, great for delicate little flies. And when casting it blows around like a light line, even the 6wt.But in good conditions it can rip across a lake, no sweat.I think those hardcore river rippers would enjoy this line tremendously, excellent roll casts with little effort, and costs 60$ at kkflyfisher.com.And 555 also comes in intermidiate.and sinking lines, and a clear floater for you trout ninjas out there. Now to Ultra 3,this line has real feel to it.I really love the speed it can create, this is awesome line, that AST process works thats for sure.I can false cast with sixty feet of line like Im going for twenty, thats without any hauling on the line. This is the best all around line I own,it cuts through wind,I mean into wind, and still shoots far and fast. But with speed comes collision, you gotta adjust a bit on the cast by aiming higher above the water and letting it float down gently.Because this stuff flips flies down hard. But it is very manuverable line advanced casters will rejoice. And fifty bones it costs as much as most of the lines out there. My choice is the Ultra 3 hands down,a line with many uses. If you consider yourself an expert caster you will enjoy this line.No doubt about it. Its available at gart sports and other sporting goods stores.
