Pros: Every song on this CD. Really!
Cons: Don't wait too long.
The Bottom Line: Excellent! Two plays and you'll be taken in! Finally a band that can play, write, sing and perform like few have the last two decades.

| benicia's Full Review: Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters Movies |
I am so fortunate! Here I am in London back in April of 2004. At a HMV Music Store (major chain in the UK) where at age 53 years of age, I'm searching the CD bins for something unique and different as I always do when I'm in Europe.
The store is playing a CD that apparently has been on the UK charts for several months now. I ask... "Is it Robbie Williams" as I inquire as to a song called 'MARY' that I am hearing in the store. I'm told in an instant that it is a group called 'Scissor Sisters' and I'm taken over to the area where this rather unique CD is handed to me. I buy it for some reason just based on the one song I just heard played at the store.
It takes me weeks to discover that the band is not a UK based band at all but a New York based band that has released its first album where only residents of other countries can buy it. America chooses not to release it in lieu of more important music such as Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson. Oops, let's not forget 'Usher' as well.
Now, I'm still buying Moody Blues, Brian Wilson and Tears For Fears CD's and DVD's. Yet I also buy Robbie Williams, Moby, ColdPlay and Franz Ferdinand. What is a 'Scissor Sisters' and why at age 53 years do I like this band that writes about gays, transvestites and some other unique stories played out in their music? I'm just a straight, married and older guy vacationing in London looking for something other than what the corporate idiots at record companies/corporations decide for which music I should listen to or better said, what is most marketable. I don't buy 'American Idol' music...
I'm not about to list the songs here again (see other reviews or go to WWW.Scissorsisters.Com) because you should be buying this album right about now if you are somewhere between the ages of 16 and 70 years of age.
I'm writing this review on July 26th, 2004. This album came out in February 2004. It has been on the BBC charts for 31 weeks to date! It has been so popular in the UK and in Spain and Italy that this group called 'Sister Scissors' is already playing large venues in Europe even including 'Royal Albert Hall' in London (Royal Albert Hall takes about two decades to get into after earned fame).
Finally on July 27th, 2004, the USA will release 'Scissor Sisters' to very little publicity or fanfare. The band will play some small venues in the USA for the release including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego to mention a few.
So, I'm months ahead in listening to their music and this initial album. Better yet, I just saw 'Scissor Sisters' perform at a place called 'SLIM's' in San Francisco on July 24th, 2004. I was so taken by this bands performance, style, ability and their quality that as soon as I got home, I saved the ticket stub, placed it inside the CD and decided that it could indeed be as famous as seeing The Beatles for the first time! I didn't have to see them in a 10,000 seat stadium or arena but instead as a little-known band here in America where two-hundred of us watched them perform as though they had been doing it for decades.
This is a tight band. Disciplined with their music in mind. Destined for major fame at least around the rest of the world while we here in America focus on Britney Spears empty and flat attempts at music or for that matter, George W. Bush and his empty and flat attempts at being an American president (oops....a Linda Ronstat moment).
Listen to 'LAURA' and to 'MARY' for starters. Then graduate onto the other songs that stray off into their own direction but offer still the same exciting sound that 'Scissor Sisters' can only do.
What a find... First album and it's a GREATEST HITS album already.
