| ctinhan's Full Review: Scooby Doo - Mystery Machine Pull Case |
My four year old daughter is a big fan of Scooby Doo and this past May we had to plan an overnight stay at the hospital for her to have surgery. She had wanted the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine Pull Case for a long time and I figured the situation warranted the purchase. My daughter was very excited when I brought this home for her and couldn't wait to pack it up with all the necessities that she would be bringing with her.
The case is made of durable vinyl, it is in the shape of the Mystery Machine Van that the gang all pile into on their way to solving the many ghosts and zombies that they run across daily. The coloring of the van makes this pulley case look like an exact replica of the actual Mystery Machine that children see on TV. Printed across the roof are the words Scooby-Doo in vibrant colors.
The dimensions of the Mystery Machine van is an ample 10 x 15 x 7, which is the perfect size for a couple of days worth of clothes and toys too. We packed a variety of clothes, undies, and nightgowns for my daughter to take to the hospital and there was still plenty of room for her to pack some of her favorite toys to bring with her. The case opens easily by un-zippering the roof of the Mystery Machine, my daughter had no problems with the zipper at all.
The inside of the van is reinforced in each corner with a hard plastic piece, this helps to keep the van from collapsing. To hold down the contents which your child wants to tote around with them, the case has tie down straps. The straps have plastic connectors at the end that are easy for even a two year old to connect and release themselves. There is also a zippered compartment to hold anything smaller that you may want to store in there.
The case has two hard plastic wheels that are attached securely to the van and a retractable handle that can be pulled out to thirteen inches to make the case easy for any small child to pull it behind them. The wheels move easily across the linoleum or a rugged surface. The retractable handle can be pulled out easily and smoothy, no tugging is needed.
One of the aspects that I really liked about this van is that because it is made of vinyl it can be wiped down with a damp sponge inside and out. This is a big plus when a child happens to put something messy inside the van. My daughter put some chocolate in there that melted and it cleaned up very nicely. One note though, do not leave case out in the rain for long periods of time as it will not keep the contents dry, we found this out the hard way.
One thing that I was sorely disappointed in with this case was the lack of packaging it came in. The wheels on each case, at every store I went to, showed signs of wear from other children dragging it around the store. I had to search for the least used looking wheels and then wash them when I got home. Although this may not seem like a big deal to many people, I think that if I am purchasing something new it should at least look new.
Overall, this is a very nice little case for the Scooby-Doo enthusiast. It can be used for short trips away from home or to tote/store toys around the house. My daughter now uses this case to store her Barbie dolls and their clothes together. This case makes it easy for her to keep everything together where she can find it. It also makes clean up time a breeze for her when she is done playing with her dolls. The recommended age for this case is for the two to seven year olds but I think that it would make a nice gift for any age Scooby-Doo lover.
