| Donnie013's Full Review: Scotch Brite& Cook Top Cleaner Starter Kit (950-CT... |
Many years ago, I purchased the KitchenAid radiant heat cooktop. I cannot begin to tell you how much I love using it. Cleaning it, however, was another matter. Being made of tempered glass, it poses a big problem in keepig it looking like new. There are so many products on the market that advertise that they will clean your glass cook top and while they do just that, they are sloppy to use and coarse on the skin.
That's why when Scotch Brite came out with their Cook Top Cleaner Starter Kit, I knew it was something I wanted to try.
First of all, let me talk about the solution: the solution is a premix that is already soaked into the 3x5 pads that are cut and fitted to match the bottom of the scouring handle. This solution not only cleans but also polishes your cook top so once you clean your cook top, all you need to do is buff it with a soft dry terry cloth rag. What a shine it produces!
The solution works wonders on the cook top and since it is a non-abrasive, it will not damage it in any way. That's another plus as far as I'm concerned.
Now, I'll tell you about the handle.
Handle? Yes, the handle. The base of the handle is about the size of an index card, 3x5 and the entire construction is hard molded plastic. The underside of the base has a piece of material designed to hold the pad firmly so the pad will not slip off as you polish your cook top. The entire handle is less than three inches in height and is made to fit your hand perfectly.
Since the hand part rises high above the pad holder, the only time your fingers ever touch the pad is when you take it out of its pouch and when you take it off the scrubber to toss it in the garbage. There is no harsh chemical to filter into your pores, cuticles or finger nails.
When I first started cleaning my cook top, I used the cleaner / polisher that comes in the plastic bottle. What a mess that made! You have this white stuff that needs to be spread evenly, let dry then vigorously rub off with a paper towel till it shines. What a chore! And talk about drying out your hands! I hated it.
Not so with the Scotch Brite cleaner. The handle does the work for you. Yes, you need to apply a bit of elbow grease but it is still easier on your hands and fingers than the other products. Especially if you're like me and have arthritic fingers. With the use of the handle, my figners are no longer bent in awkward positions in order to clean the cook top. That also saves on pain relievers.
The amount of elbow grease you apply depends on how dried your food splatters have become. But you'll see that for yourself. There is very little scrubbing with the Scotch Brite brand.
I will be honest here and say that I don't use this product every day. On a daily basis, I will use a hot damp cloth to wipe any splatters that my cooking produces. But once a month, I will use the Scotch Brite cook top cleaner to bring out the clean shine of my nice appliance.
Why not use it every day? While the starter kit costs about $7.00 - depending on where you buy it, the refill pads cost about $5.00 - again depending on where you buy them - and that's too expensive for my pocketbook to use on a daily basis, but as I said, I will use them monthly.
Yes I guess I could go back to using a rag and the plastic bottles with their harsh chemicals but they are much more work than the Scotch Brite cleaner with its very convenient holder.
This is an item you will always find in my kitchen.
If it weren't for the price, this would get a five star rating from me but considering the cost of the refills, a four star works best for me.
Use it and see for yourself. I still think it's a great product.
