I bought mine from Home Depot about 2 months ago. It was priced at $1589.00. Unfortunately, I delayed in buying as I was not sure what to do and as a result I missed a sale price of $200.00 off. I did get a free trailer with it though, which has turned out to be a great tool.
The tractor is great, and does a nice job. I find that it backfires when you stand up and the safety switch kills the motor. Other then that, I have found nothing negative about it, except for the manuals.
I had much trouble figuring out how to drive the thing, so I called Home Depot to get help. After a few phone calls and some research it turned out the manuals that come with this unit do not accurately describe how to operate it. Unlike most mowers, you do not step on the brake/clutch and then engage the transmission. Instead you take your foot off the brake and slowly engage the transmission. Apparently this is a function of the automatic transmission.
I went with this model because of the John Deere name and the Kohler motor. They had a 17hp unit, but it had a Briggs & Stratton motor. I wanted the Kohler.
The turning radius is amazing on this thing. I feared I would not be able to use it on my entire lawn, especially around trees and landscaping beds. I don't use a handmower at all anymore. This unit turns on the radius of a dime!
Well worth every penny, so far.
