SPEEDY GREEN 2000, Simple, Easy & Quick....

Written: Apr 21 '04
Pros:Covers quickly, Inexpensive, hold a lot
Cons:None I can see.
The Bottom Line: Price and performance from a company that backs their products make this spreader a winner.

WHY SCOTT'S BRAND?
This Scott's Speedy Green spreader replaces a 10 year old model. To be honest I did not even think twice about buying another Scott's spreader. The company has always stood behind their products, answered questions when I called and even sent me free parts for my old spreader. Sadly the old one broke beyond the point of repair last season. But hey I got 10 years out of it and the new Speedy Green 2000 at $25 was about the same price I paid for the old one 10 years ago.

MY LAWN:
I use the spreader to apply fertilizer to 10K sq feet 3/4 times a year.

WHY A ROTARY SPREADER OVER A DROP SPREADER?
To be honest, it covers quicker. When using Scott's fertilizer products I have never had an issue with striping. While the drop spreader is supposedly more accurate, I have never had an issue with the rotary model so long as I overlapped a little.

FEATURES:
The unit is the 'better' model sitting between the 1000 and 3000. The 1000 holds less fertilizer. The 3000 holds more and has a padded handle. The 2000 seamed the fairest price for what you got. The unit has large wheels which manuever well. It holds 8500 sq feet of fertilizer. Handle height is at comfortable position for my 5' 9" frame. The release adjustment is no longer a rotary knob located at the base of the tub but now a simple twist knob located up by the handle. I find it much easier to adjust over the old model. To start releasing fertilizer you simply grasp and hold a handle as you push. (much like the bar you might grasp on a power propelled mower) This is another improvement over the old model. Finally there is a calibration hash mark you can use to make sure your unit is calibrated correctly. This will likely be handy over time. I already have noticed that my 10 year old model was applying more fertilizer than it should have. No harm done but it would have been nice to properly calibrate the old model. Note the spreader is pre-assembled, it's together and ready to go in seconds.

CLEANING:
Just rinse it off. That's it. Instructions say no lubrication is necesary but a shot of oil on the axles now and then likely will not hurt.

SUMMARY:
Great value, Great Price, Fine Spreader.
