The Scott's Speedy Green 3000 makes a rather mundane portion of lawn care a bit more palatable.
Don't get me wrong - I love a nice green lawn just like the next guy but fertilizing is just one of those things that is a necessary evil for those of us with St. Augustine grass lawns. Fertilizer is sort of smelly (in a chemical way), the lawn has to be watered immediately after application and, God forbid you get any on the concrete pavement!
The Speedy Green makes the fertilizing process go by much faster and with less time over all. With a quick glimpse on the back of your favorite fertilizer to check the setting - you are off to the races!
Before my first use I made sure that the unit was properly calibrated to release the desired amount of fertilizer on my lawn. This is very simple to do and mine was right on the money out of the box! The dialing in is simplified with a twist adjustment right on the handle to the desired spread rate for your lawn. The large hopper easily accommodates a 5,000 square foot bag of fertilizer so having to do a mid-yard refill is very unlikely.
The Speedy Green will broadcast out the fertilizer a good 36" to 48" either side of the center line of the unit (depending on walking speed, terrain, etc.) as opposed to the 20 some odd inch spread of the more traditional drop spreaders. The only trick is figuring out where to do the next swath of yard allowing for only a minimal over lap of coverage.
The spreader has a bicycle brake-type release mechanism allowing an easy “on off” for material flow. One nice feature is that there is a 'lock' allowing you to lock on the spreader on for those longer applications.
The only negative are the wheels - rather how they are mounted. They are a bit wobbly out of the box however this has not had any adverse affect on the units overall operation.
