| BryRrose's Full Review: Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Fertilizer |
I have been using Scotts Turfbuilder on and off for a number of years to feed my lawn. I fertilize about three times a year. In the spring I use a Crabgrass killer/fertilizer mix. In the summer if I am not having a weed problem I use Scotts Turfbuilder. If I am having a weed problem I use Scotts Turfbuilder plus 2 to control the weeds. In the fall I use Scott's Winterizer fertilizer to promote grass development even in the cold months.
Scotts Turfbuilder is a unique fertilizer that has very small granules. When I have used Generic Fertilizers I have found that the granules are much larger and the lawn does not get as much coverage. Because Scotts Turfbuilder is smaller in size it goes through my spreader easier and provides more adequate coverage. I have found that I have to fertilize my lawn less with Scotts Turfbuilder because the lawn stays fed longer and remains green longer.
Scotts Turfbuilder can be a little more expensive than the generic brands but the cost difference is taken away when you have to buy more of the generic brands to provide the same level of fertilization. Some of the tricks I use when using Scotts Turfbuilder are as follows:
Spreader Setting: I set my spreader so it drops just a little more product than the manufacturer recommends. I do this to give my lawn a little more food. If you try this you must be careful to not overdo it or you will burn your lawn and it will go brown very fast.
Watering: I water immediately after I use the Fertilizer. Scotts states that Turfbuilder does not need to be watered in but I do it anyway because I feel more comfortable doing so. I water for about 15 minutes after the application of the fertilizer.
Cleaning: As with any fertilizer, you cannot help but to get it on the sidewalks and driveway. I sweep or hose of my sidewalk areas to make sure no product is left behind. It will stain your concrete.
Scotts Turfbuilder will give you a plush green lawn whose lush green effect will last a lot longer than generic fertilizers. A well fed lawn will not allow weeds to invade. If you have a weed problem try Scotts Turfbuilder Plus 2 and your weeds will go away in about a week.
I buy the 5000 square foot coverage bag and it covers my whole yard.
