| skadar's Full Review: Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Fertilizer |
I'm not a big fertilizer user. If at all, I use it once a year in the spring. I don't know a lot about lawn care, but I *do* know that this stuff works wonders! It will make your lawn turn a deep shade of emerald green about two days after application.
I believe that I actually purchased a version of Scotts Turf Builder with Weed Control... so not only did we end up with an incredibly green and lush lawn, but it was weed free for like 2-3 months. Personally, I don't think that a flawless lawn is all that important, but my wife seems to think it is... so she loves this stuff.
The first time I used Scotts Turf Builder was actually two years ago. Even though it did a great job on our lawn, I wasn't sure if it was the Scotts fertilizer or just the fertilizer in general... because we had never used fertilizer at all before. So the next year I bought a cheaper generic brand of fertilizer in a blue and white bag and it honestly didn't nearly do as good a job as the Scotts. The lawn didn't really turn a deep shade of green like before, and there were definitely more weeds than the year before. My wife was a little miffed that I didn't buy the "good stuff".
You have to be careful when you apply this fertilizer... it is extremely efficient at greening your lawn. You will no doubt apply much more than you actually need. And if you miss a spot, even if it's only two inches wide, you will see it a few days later, once the fertilizer starts to really take effect. If you use a drop spreader you will probably end up with streaks in your lawn. I would therefore recommend a broadcast spreader for application of this fertilizer.
If you have to use fertilizer on your lawn, or if you just want to splurge and turn your lawn a deep shade of lush green, this is the stuff to get. Pay a little more and get the good stuff... otherwise it's not really worth it to use fertilizer at all.
