| DeRango's Full Review: Scotts Winterizer with Plus 2 Weed Control |
Although I truly enjoy taking care of my lawn, I always look forward to the winter break to my tasks in the yard. Unfortunately once the grass stops growing the snow starts blowing, and that means its time to break out the snow blowers and shovels.
The final step of the year in maintaining that picture perfect lawn includes the application of Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard With PLUS 2 Weed Control. My experiences with this particular fertilizer has been of great success and product claims have been proved to be excellent overall.
A healthy, well-fed underground root system will keeps your lawn green in the late season and is what makes it one of the first lawns on the block to green up in spring. Cool season lawn grasses develop their underground root systems in fall and store nutrients that will carry them through winter. However it can not be just any lawn fertilizer that will do the trick. A high quality, slow-release nitrogen fertilizer formulated for fall application is the magic ingredient.
This season was a tough one as my Backyard Battles have been a relentless task of weeding, feeding, and healing my yard. The uphill struggle has been a large amount of hard work, but the payoff will be apparent next season, and care taking will be much easier than the previous.

For best results, apply to moist grass. To help particles stick to weed leaves, the grass should be thoroughly watered or wet from dew before applying.
In the fall DO NOT treat centipede after the first of October and DO NOT treat bahia after the first of November.
Seeding/sodding/sprigging: Wait until the new grass has been mowed at least four times before applying Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard With PLUS 2 Weed Control.
If you are planning to seed, sod or sprig, you should wait at least 1 month after you have applied Scotts Turf Builder® WinterGuard With PLUS 2® Weed Control.
For best results, use a Scotts spreader. When using a rotary spreader, take special care near desirable plants. Be careful when applying this product near shrubs, flower beds or vegetable gardens as contact with weed control may damage these desirable plants.

Active Ingredients
1.04% 2,4-D 0.52% MCPP Fertilizer Analysis: 26-3-12
All fertilizers have three numbers on the label which indicate the fertilizer analysis, or "percentage by weight" of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, in that order. Therefore, a 100 pound bag of fertilizer labeled 20-10-5 would contain 20% nitrogen (20 pounds), 10% available phosphates (10 pounds), and 5% soluble potassium (5 pounds).
Nitrogen: is a primary nutrient that really makes the plants grow. When you put fertilizer on your lawn, most of the green-up and growth comes from the nitrogen.
Phosphorus: is a primary nutrient that encourages rooting, blooming and fruit production in plants.
Potassium: helps plants resist disease and aids in winter hardiness.
Application
My experience has always led me to believe that the Spreader works well as it covers a vaster area. The Dropper can easily leave Zebra Stripes as missing an area will skip a row/line, which in turn leaves grass unfertilized and looking less green than the fertilized grass. (Thus Zebra Stripes Shades of green that differ from one another) The Kicker or Spreader, gives you a radius which allows the grass to be fertilized much quicker with less emphasis on accuracy and you are allowed to do larger passes to get the job done.
Final Recommendations
Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard With PLUS 2 Weed Control, basically feeds my yard during the winter months and provides a kick start for the spring season of yard care. The added bonus of weed control greatly improves upon an already strong product, and increases it value as a product by providing an additional service in this respect. Although it is not a perfect product when it comes to weed control as it does not fair well against larger healthier weeds. Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard With PLUS 2 Weed Control reduced the number of weeds in my yard along with thicken up and providing a greener healthier lawn in the spring.
