| Babycarrots's Full Review: Scrabble |
I love this game, but it causes arguments. Being the female half of babycarrots of course I am smarter. My spouse tends to make up words to win. Isn't it amazing how the male id(ego) will refuse to let him loose. Don't get me wrong the arguments are all in fun. One thing I would recommend though is purchasing a dictionary when you buy the game. This saves women world wide when either proving that palatize is a word or proving that one of his off the wall words does not exist. I know it is painful for him to loose, but what can I say, I am a far superior player.
The basic idea
The basic idea of this game is to spell word with the letter blocks you have in your hand. Some of the squares on the game board are labeled with double and triple letter scores and double word scores. This is where I usually get the most points. Each letter is worth so many points. It might be beneficial also to purchase a calculator along with the dictionary.
Great teaching tool
This is a great teaching tool for your children as well. This game teaches spelling, math, and socialization skills. I have noticed that my childs vocabulary has increased since buying this game. Now she has more of a competitive edge, so she reads the dictionary while playing the game and incorporates those words into her vocabulary. It teaches math skills because of all of the adding and multipling. She is already better in that arena than her father. (Just a playful jab as I am sure he will read this) I also think that it teaches children to interact with others, because all things are usually learned at home first. We bring games into our everyday life because it promotes a positive environment and ensures that we spend quality time with her. This is very important to us and we want to make sure it is enjoyable for her as well.
When I was her age..
I remember way back when, I was playing chutes and ladders and candyland. It puts me at awe to think of the learning advancements our children have over us. Now kids have to know the alphabet before going to kindergarten, they are even learning to read before going to kindergarten. When I was her age we were barely learning the alphabet in kindergarten. Reading didn't even start until first grade at least. Even then it was simple reading. I believe that games of this nature will challenge her enough to do better in school. I can only imagine where this generation will be twenty years from now.
Scrabble, the after dinner snack
After dinner is game time. Scrabble is played often, as well as monopoly, clue, and dominoes. Each game gives something in return, but scrabble is the family favorite.
