popsrocks's Full Review: Milton Bradley Scrabble Brand Crossword Game - the...
Scrabble is a game where tiles with letters of different point value printed on them are put down on a board that also has point values. Each person takes a turn adding their own word to existing ones collect points at each turn. After a turn the played gets more tiles from the bag, they should always be playing with seven) and then start planning the next move trying to get best value of points for each word.
The board with the words on it look like a sort of crossword puzzle. Kids eight years and up can play and I believe adults have the best games. This is a game that can have 2-4 players. Each has a little stand with which they can place and work their letters. The game is finished when all tiles that can be used are and the person with the most points wins.
A Favorite Of Ours
Scrabble is one of our favorite games. We have the Deluxe Edition that is large and on a turntable. It make for a great platform for us when my wife and I play almost every night after the Christmas season, well into January. We also have the basic game as a back-up. That when the gals want to play and dad and mom already have dibs on the Deluxe set. No matter what size the board is, it's the strategy and us of letters making words that remains the same. We also like to play games when camping or traveling but we are limited to size at times. The people at Milton Bradly have another Scrabble game that is the solution to travel problems. It's this compact travel Folio Edition.
Playing Scrabble On the Road
We also own this portable edition that is perfect for when traveling. It is a bit small but I like how compact it is. My wife and I were kicking ourselves because we forgot it on our last trip to the Caribbean Islands last a couple of weeks ago.
This edition is but 13" x 2 1/2" x 11" when opened. It's half that when closed for travel. It folds on plastic hinges in the middle. We have never had a problem with the board casing.
Like a regular set it comes with the players tile racks (made of plastic not wood) and also a full set of tiles with a bag to draw from and store in. There are no changes in the rules to accommodate the smaller size board. That's good. there's no reason to change the rules of a well established game. The only real difference in play is that the tiles and board are smaller. A great feature is that the tiles lock into place. That means a game in a moving car by the kids is not going to fall over or have the tiles slide out of place. The snap in works so well that the game can be folded over, stored and brought out to play again.
Everything folds and stores within itself. The full board then can be placed in a soft zippered bag for a bit of protection.
Last Thoughts
Scrabble is an excellent game for the mind. It encourages good spelling and can broaden a persons vocabulary. I always liked to see my kids playing the game. They still do even though they are older. Scrabble is the one most played game we own no matter which edition.
Having this travel Scrabble keeps us playing no matter where we are and there's no reason to have to hear the kids saying, "Are we there yet?" You may hear, "kwuant isn't a real word!" "Yes it is!", "No, It's not", "Yes it...
