Pros: Extremely easy to use, available almost everywhere, durable.
Cons: Can be a little on the expensive side.
Scunci is probably best known for their line of hair ties but they also have some incredible hair clips. Ask any guy that lives with a female and he will tell you horror stories of hair clips that they have stepped on in the middle of the night. If you've never been the victim of a rogue hair clip consider yourself lucky. The Scunci brand isn't cheap but in this case the extra money that you pay for them is worth it if you want a quality clip that isnt going to lose it's gripping power over time, has teeth that are strong and stays where you clip it until your remove it. The only time this becomes problematic is if you go crazy with the hair spray and have to remove it at the end of the night.
Scunci Three Prong Crown Style Hair Clip
I don't think guys really grasp the concept of what makes a good quality hair clip. You want something that is going to stay in place and not slide around but something that does give you some movement and won't rip your hair out. The three prong version of the basic hair clip is great if you are only putting or pulling up the top and sides of your hair or if you have thinner hair. Since my hair is long and has a natural curl to it I can't bend over, grab it all, twist it and use this type of clip to secure it. Even though my hair is long and can be hard to manage, this clip works great when I want it out of my face but don't want it completely pulled up off the neck.
So why are they considered a 'crown' version? Does it make you royalty? No, not even close. The design of the top of it is what separates it from the regular hair clips in the Scunci line. These are a little harder to get used to than the regular one piece squeeze tab style but they are nice if you want something that looks a little different. If you have a lot of hair and really need to open the jaw wide these might not be the best pick if you are doing your hair yourself but if you have someone helping you out then it's a piece of cake. You would think that the extra piece of plastic on the crown design would make these a little more delicate but I have never had any of these break. The teeth have snapped but that was my own fault.
These come two to a card and this particular style only comes in two colors, that funky brown swirl and solid black. I have seen the cards with two black, two brow or one of each so if you are someone wants that type of assortment make sure you look further back on the peg for other combos. Scunci does make the 'mini' three prong in other colors but it wont have the crown clip so if color coordinating matters they do offer other comparable styles in a plethora of colors. Wal-Mart generally has the lowest price on Scunci products and the last time I picked up a few packs of these they were about $2.50. Sure, I could go to the dollar store and get about twenty of them for that price but they are made from a cheaper plastic and you are almost guaranteed to break one of the teeth out or have a spring go flying out of the side of one after a few weeks of use.
The Bottom Line
Scunci products might cost more but in the long run you will end up saving money. I love their hair ties and hair clips and event though I don't use them exclusively I do recommend them to people who want something that isn't going to break under normal conditions and will last a long time if you take care of them. The three prong clip might not be the best pick for everyone but if you have used other clips like this and had success with them then they are a nice pick to add to your hair care set up. The crown feature on the clip adds a little extra style to it and both the black and brown clips are great for running to the grocery store or if you are going out to hit the clubs.
