Pros: Acrylic tank w/ a built-in filtration unit that is quiet and w/ no outside plumbing!
Cons: Acrylic tanks scratches easier than glass tanks.

Re: How do I do the modified set up (Reply to this comment)

I apologize for the late reply, I guess I don't get email notifications when people comment on my reviews (even though I'm supposed to).

Anyway, I updated the "Optional Modification" area since my previous review was several years old. If you still need more info, email me: "mcbaes72@yahoo.com". Thanks for your interest.

How do I do the modified set up? (Reply to this comment)
by bethington81
I have a system II and I want to modify my Bio-Ball/chemical set up to your recommended algae set up. How do I do it? Can you give me a step by step procedure to follow. Also what light fixture did you buy to light the back area?

kappaknight,

I forgot to mention in my reply how the "built in skimmer performs" as you mentioned. Well, it doesn't come w/ a skimmer, it's a separate accessory which I bought, but threw away because thought it wasn't very effective (from what I remember, been many years ago).

If you're talking about the built-in sump and how that's doing, it does it's job okay and convenient to have it built into the back of the tank (no outside plumbing). I modified it a bit by taking out the bio-balls and putting macroalgae back there along w/ a NO (normal output) light to filter the tank.

As of today, it's been running for about 5 1/2 years now, no skimmer and no sw changes during that whole time. Just used macroalgae to filter the tank (Chaetomorpha Sp., aka spaghetti or brillo pad macroalgae) and top off w/ RO water. Just two fish: False Perc (7 yrs old, from my previous tank) and Domino (2 yrs old) and two Peppermint Shrimp. It looks more like a giant refugium than a show tank, but because my bio-load is low, the macro by itself is able to handle it.

Also, excuse the late reply. I gotta visit my own reviews and check comments more often. Thanks.

Re: Feeding Fish (Reply to this comment)

Christopher,

I'm only about 2 1/2 years late in replying, sorry. Anyway, if you still have your 100 gal. tank, maybe consider a different light set up: either a short Normal Output (NO) light fixture or a retro-fit NO or Power Compact (PC) lighting mounted to the top of a canopy. The way mine is set up, I have a wooden canopy and a short PC/MH (Metal Halide) light fixture which gives me approx. 1 to 2 inches on each side of the top opening, just enough room to throw some flakes in there. Hopefully, you've found an easier way to feed your fish. HTH.

How is it working out? Alsk, I'm interested in learning about how well the built in skimmer performs.

Feeding Fish (Reply to this comment)
by tonerbandit
I have a 100 gal SeaClear System 2 aquarium and I find it to be a pain in the butt to feed my fish. I have the acrylic canopy. I either have to take the whole canopy off or lift one side and slide the lighting over just to drop some food in because there are only 2 openings in the top and bothe are covered by the lighting fixtures. Is there a way around this??? HELP!
