Pros:extremely addictive comfort
Cons:you may not be able to get out of bed
The Bottom Line: While it starts out feeling like heaven, you may sink into an unwanted crater after several years of use. We recommend trying another model at this point.
(SECOND NOTE: After a lot of hassles over seven months in trying to get the manufacturer (Sealy) to admit that the mattress does have a crater in the center, we have had it with this mattress.
The person Sealy sent out to test our mattress had to use our broomstick to see if the mattress crater existed, and he did not sit or lie on the mattress, which is required to answer that question. He merely stated that there was only a 1 inch drop in the center. How can you test a mattress without putting any weight on it?
Next on our agenda are:
1. Continued visits to the chiropractor for back and neck problems (my husband and I.)
2. Replacement of our mattress (at our expense) with one recommended by our chiropractor, who sleeps on the same type of mattress. It is a relatively unknown, flipless brand sold by a local, discount mattress store for about $800.
3. Possibly a small claims court suit against the Sealy and Home Comfort, the store that sold us the mattress. Luckily small claims is easy to use in our state. We will seek some pain and suffering damages if we go this route.
Sorry to report the bad news, but Home Comfort told us a year ago that they quit carrying Sealy mattresses because of a drop in quality. Gee, that is nice to hear after you have paid around a thousand dollars for a mattress that is only four years into a ten year warranty.
I hope that this helps you make a mattress decision.)
(NOTE: While I still am a big fan of this of this mattress, during the fourth year it developed a deep crater in the center. We contacted the manufacturer three months ago, and are still waiting to hear how they will remedy the situation, which is covered by warranty. Will post what happens as soon as it occurs. I would not buy this mattress again due to the problems we are having with the manufacturer.)
Original review:
Getting out of bed was never so difficult before we bought a Sealy Posturepedic Crown Jewel mattress. Now we fear losing our jobs because the bed is so comfortable. We have cancelled vacations because we know of no hotels with such a comfortable bed, and we have come home early from other trips because we missed our mattress.
We have the king pillow top on both sides, and simply flip it over every six months. It is showing no signs of wear four years later. (Wish we could say that about us.) For such a luxurious and thick mattress, you'll need new sheets and a mattress cover with a deeper pocket. We prefer Lands' End's best mattress cover and their cotton knit sheets because they are so soft and reasonably priced.
Don't ask me what is inside the mattress cover; I have no idea and could care less. It does the job.
Our bed was rechristened Cloud Nine, and we make a point of spending some serious time there. If everyone had a mattress this comfortable, there would be no wars. Period.
