I thought this only happened to other people that I've read about! Sealy denied my warranty claim on my queen pillowtop Opal Elite/Lynford (782 coils) mattress this morning. They said it was due to the stains and the bent box spring! The bed sits on the carpet without a frame. Under the carpet is concrete. So if the metal frame inside of the box spring bent, then it's due to their bad design! The bed is sagging 2.5" on one side and 2" on the other. The box spring is sagging 1/2". I'm 6 foot tall and have been between 202 and 260 lbs over the last 8 years.
There is a blood stain up in one corner where I had a bloody nose one night and didn't know until hours after I woke up. There were some tiny, very light stains in the center of the bed on one side. I didn't see them as they were so light, but they helped cause the warranty to be voided.
The original mattress was purchased in 1998. The bed I have now was replaced under warranty in 2001 because of sagging. The second bed should have been replaced in about 2004, but it took me 2 years just to find the receipt.
The original mattress I rotated and flipped every single time I changed the sheets weekly! Seriously! The second mattress was rotated and flipped about once a month. It made zero difference how much I rotated and flipped them. They still had significant sagging! I never ripped a handle loose either.
The bottom line is, if you try for a warranty claim, you had better get any stains out, perfectly well, BEFORE you call the bed inspector!
This bed failed mechanically just sitting on it's own box spring on a rock solid floor. No bed frame! My bed is not a jungle gym. I don't bounce all over it nor does anyone else!! The box spring sagging is not my fault and yet they won't budge!
At a minimum they should remind people that the mattress should be perfectly clean or they won't honor the warranty.
These beds are not 10 year beds regardless of having a 10 year warranty or not. They lasted 3 years on average before becoming uncomfortable due to major sagging, with only one primary sleeper. That's just not good quality. I suspect now that the 10 year warranty is just for marketing. They can get out of replacing the bed if it has anything resembling a stain on it.
