Pros: Good graphics arcade mode, and Classic Car challenge mode.
Cons: Too much like the Grand Turismo Series.
The Bottom Line: Good game to buy on a low budget. The graphics are excellent for it's day and it serves as a good multiplayer game, overall a buy.

| redsoxfan2004's Full Review: Sega GT 2002 for Xbox |
After a few suggestions from all of you I think it's time revise my review a bit. The Graphics in this game are good for starters. The Car detail although not stunning is good for the time of it's release. They give off the appearance that they are actual moving cars with moving parts and swaying suspension give it the feeling of actual physics at work. The sky looks fairly realistic along with the track texture as well. There is even dust clouds that leave you trail in certain sections of the dirt roads. Maybe it's just me but sometimes in the game you move between an overcast tree environment to a bright sunny sky, might be just me but I kind of feel like theres a real sun providing glare at the moment of transition between the two environments. Kudos to the graphic design team on that note. The third person view available in race mode is in my opinion the best for you graphic freaks out there. It overall is simply just a better gaming experience compared to the first person view.
All right gameplay now. the basic controls are good. The A button being the accelaration with the B as the Brake. You can configure them but I suggest against that, it gets to confusing, for me at least. During the actual racing which is where you spend the majority of your days (how the game tracks time, not just an expression!), Sega Gt trys a new system that is a good good one. Instead of just going through each race slamming into walls not caring about car damage Sega Gt forces you to care. It sets a value for each finishing position in dollars. During the race there is a damage bar that goes down progressively for each time your trade pain or rub the wall. It also rewards you for racing a perfect game with additional money added to your winnings at the end of the race. This unforunately is very hard to do, but it is a good thought. You either have to throw the race almost and go for no damage going slow and all or accept the fact that you will not get a Perfect damage bonus. This I think is a good system for me at least because at the end of the race they subtract damage costs from your total winnings for that particular race. This forces you to keep track of this in the back of your mind. Kudos again.
All right now the weakness of this game, it's similarities to Grand Turismo and difficulty. Many if not all tracks used by Sega Gt are virtually rip-offs of the ones used in Grand Turismo for the PsOne. Take that for whats it's worth many of you may not care but I for one did since I had played Grand Turismo 2 prior to picking Sega Gt up. Unlike Grand Turismo 2 though the game does use many less cars, at least less variations of each. Sega Gt uses an average of 3 or 4 for each car maker, plenty for arcade mode but not enough for a simulation. I felt like I had all the cars I needed to feel like I had beaten the game really early. After I had beaten the last of the Offical races in the game I felt no need to keep playing because it seemed like there was nothing more to do in the game, from a car collection standpoint at least. On a side not the virtual garage with pictures from races you can take, also a nice feature, is nice. It shows you a zoomable area with your current car in it along with trophies and photos as I mentioned. While were on the subject of it's career style mode they call Sega Gt mode I have one final piece of info to leave you with. Put plainly it's too easy. Granted it is a little frustrating having bad cars at first for what seems like an eternity. Once you get a good car you can beat a good portion of the game in a short time. I made it through the game in a few, probably 3 or 4 cars. That is not, in my opinion the point of a racing simulation game. Your supposed to be on your toes at all times not having oodless and oodless of money at your disposal. That may be picky but not for those of you that enjoy games like this.
In closing overall Sega Gt is a decent game. Nothing to write home about about but also nothing to throw away. It's graphic are ahead of it's time, the gameplay is good with the Xbox controller and it's arcade mode with two players is a blast. The only problems are it's too easy and too much like another older game. Also the classic car challenge portion of this game is good. I found it fun to use other older cars not found in most racing games, it is kind of easy to beat though.
