| japage's Full Review: Select Comfort Classic Mattress |
I have been engaged for a long time, in what seems to be a never-ending search, for a mattress that my wife and I both can sleep on at the same time.
We have tried Sealey, Simmons, firm, soft, pillow-top and traditional top. We even resorted to trying a Tempur-pedic memory foam mattress. Nothing has worked so far.
About a month ago we decided to give Select Comfort a try. How can you not believe Paul Harvey!
The model we choose was the 3000 with the traditional top. It was purchased at the Select Comfort store in the Lexington Mall in Lexington, KY. The buying experience was very pleasant. The salesman was very knowledgeable of his product and absolutely no pressure was applied to induce us to buy. We opted for a dual-chamber queen mattress with dual whisper quiet digital controls. We were told the mattress would be shipped from the factory in South Carolina in 7-10 days maximum. It arrived on our door step in 3 days!
I would like to say, we have solved our sleep problems.......but, I can't say that.
The mattress arrived in one large box. Not heavy, just large. After unpacking the parts and reading the instructions, set up took about 20 minutes. I will tell you at this point, we did not buy the foundation as our existing foundation is a rigid one just like the Select Comfort foundation. The construction of the materials is good and bad. The bed is encompassed with semi-dense foam blocks approximately 3" x 7" with a foam divider piece between the two bladders. This seems a little cheap and would appear prone to wear out. The two air bladders are made from very heavy gauge rubber and look to be very durable. The air pump is relatively quiet when filling the bladders but I wouldn't call it 'Whisper Quiet'. The cover is a Rayon/Damask quilted with a zip off top for cleaning. The function of the cover is to hold the foam side in place.
We have been sleeping on the mattress now for almost 4 weeks. We have tried various sleep numbers as the instructions suggest. It is just not working for us. We cannot get comfortable in it. I am sure this is more of a personal fault than a fault of the mattress. I will be taking advantage of the Select Comfort 30 day money back guarantee.
There is a 20 year warranty on the mattress, but it is prorated after two years.
