Sounds like you really like the SC..Kewl for you! But many do not. You say they out last a tempurpedic, I am curious, have you owned a tempurpedic? How long have you owned your SC? A full 20 years yet? I doubt it since they haven't been around that long..

So you cannot say one out lasts the other unless you have owned both for the full 20 years (per bed). Tempurpedic has a full 20 year guarantee on theirs, and it covers everything.. The SC does not cover everything, and there are A LOT of pieces to the SC!

Oh yeah, the SC is full of foam too..Oh an 2 narrow air chambers..

You really need to stop knocking everyones reviews who do not like this bed, it is their opnion and you have a right to yours, so write a review

"That 30 day trial sounds like it could be problematic."

Why is that?
Do you really think that after 30 nights you aren't going to know if the bed is right for you?
Temperpedic offers a 120 day trial and there are people who get their foam bed on Thursday and on Monday are in a Select Comfort store buying a new mattress.
The customer must also beware of these trials because some are money back and others are for store credit, depending on the product and store. I am referring to the "foam mattress's", not Select Comfort.

Ok I should have included, and will, in the review that it was called a "Free Sleep Trial" as long as you were the one picking it up, setting it up and taking it back if you didnt like it. Since I had them deliver it, they would not let me take it back, they charged me $150 to come pick it up. This is were it was no longer free, and they did call it free. The review was for the 5000 not the 7000. And in my opinion it was a rip off. I did try all of the beds there and while the 5000 is cheaper than the 7000, its by no means cheap. Checking it out in the store was not sufficient to understand it was not for me. Yeah I had my doubts, but my wife wanted it and I had a free trial right, so I felt comfortable giving it a shot. My Sterns and Foster Cal King is still very comfortable every time I lay down on it and I dont feel my heat and sweat trapped beneath me.

Ok...first of all, it is not called a FREE sleep trial. It is called a SLEEP TRIAL. If you don't like it, you CAN ship it back. But, don't be a moron and buy something you don't like. How many models did you try in the store? You sacrificed a better bed (7000) for the CHEAPER one (5000).

Now to be serious...it seems you have an odd shaped body. You need to not have an air bed for obvious reasons. A tempurpedic may be better for you. Those break down though and do not last as long as a select comfort bed does.

I would have suggested you go with the 7000 instead of the 5000. It has a thicker pillowtop made of a better quality foam, which makes it better for people with back problems and joint problems.

It s Still An Air Mattress - We Concur . . . (Reply to this comment)

Excellent review! Too bad that we did not read it before our "investment" in this air mattress. And you are right -- it is just an expensive, glorified air mattress. I never liked sleeping on them as a kid -- and now I remember why. They are hard and uncomfortable.

Interesting too that Margaret stated that there was a 90-day home trial period when she bought hers. I understand why there isn't one anymore. Thirty days is not enough time to give it a "fair trial". And I am sure that they stopped the 90-days because of too many complaints and returns within a 90-day period. And when I called to talk them about returning it, within 90 days, I was told I was too late, but if I had called them within the thirty days that they could have made an extension to the trial period. No one told us that when we purchased.

We did not like it in the first thirty days, but kept adjusting and trying different things. With the adjustable foundation we felt that might help too. But nothing has. We both have sore back complaints and pressure point complaints -- arms going to sleep and quite painfully so. We don't sleep well either. I am a very deep sleeper, and can usually fall asleep anywhere. Not so with this mattress. I lay down and am uncomfortable and just hope that I am tired enough to just fall asleep because if I think about my discomfort, I'd be awake all night.

Not so easy for my husband, whom already has serious back problems. We thought this would be the answer, based on the salesperson's 'pitch'. He spends more time on the couch -- which is most uncomfortable for sleeping!

Please take my advice -- if you want to try this "Sleep Number Bed" make sure you call within the 30 days and discuss an extension period for the in home trial. If you don't, your Select Comfort is gone in Sleep Number(s) -- dollars (expensive) and hours of unrest.

We LOVE ours (Reply to this comment)
by Penguinlady
We've had ours for about four years and love it. But we had a 90-day free trial. It really was free because we set it up ourselves, so avoided the cost of them doing. It took about 45 minutes the first time, and now we have it down to about 15 minutes, not including the time it takes to inflate the air mattresses. So the cost could have been avoided. Disassembly is equally fast.

I guess everyone has their own preferences!

Great review; loved all the detail. It should really help consumers trying to decide if it is for them or not. Sorry you and your wife don't care for it. That 30 day trial sounds like it could be problematic.

I'm also amazed that someone 6'5" and 5'2" can work it all out~ I am 5'3" and my ex husband 6'2", and it killed my neck just slow dancing with him. It also amuses me that she is so petite yet sounds like she takes up most of the bed~!
