| avalon09's Full Review: Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 5000 |
me and my boyfriend moved in together about a year ago. he had an OLD non-pillowtop innerspring and i had a futon. we were BOTH used to very very firm beds.
we decided to look at tempurpedic and sleep number beds. he is a good deal heavier than i (i am small - about 5'2 and 130lbs - he is HUGE 6'5 240'ish)
temperpedic is scary - its a huge block of foam that you sink into. after a couple minutes we both knew it wasnt right.
the sleep number beds can be intimidating at first. they have a bunch to choose from - ranging from a non pillowtop to a 3" pillowtop that is REALLY expensive... i was skeptical going in... we were immediately greeted by a sales woman. she was friendly - asked a lot of questions and found our sleep numbers. (im a 45 and my boyfriend is a 65) we tried all the models. i fell in love with the adjustable foundation they have - its like the craftmatic bed. it was out of our budget but i can tell you now ITS AWESOME!!! i read in bed and after we get married were going to start a family - i can only guess how nice it would be to be able to prop my feet up!! we really liked the 7000 - but once again - it was a little more than we wanted to spend. so we decided to get the 5000. we also splurged a little and got a "memory foam" pillow and a body pillow for me :)
we set the bed up our selves - nothing too complicated. the step by step instructions are VERY easy to follow.
the first couple nights were a little hard on me. my boyfriend slept better that he ever has - and he also has stopped snoring. (i think the pillow really helps!!) after about 3 nights i got comfortable - i changed my number to a 35 and it made a world of difference!
overall i am very happy with the bed. like i said i was really skeptical at first - i heard all the horror stories of people sinking to the middle and hitting the foam walls - but neither of us have experienced any problems. one thing that really scared me was the mold - when i brought this up to the sales woman she made a good point. at least you can see it - all beds - even innersprings, have stuff growing in them. we bought a dehumidifier ( we live in a very damp house) and so far so good. we air out the bed once a season. (unplug - unzip and ALSO vacuum out the inside! so handy for people with bad allergies!!!!!)
i would definitely recommend this bed :)
