Pros: When the bed works, it's better than the worn-out mattress we used to have.
Cons: The bed is expensive, overpriced and not a good value.
The Bottom Line: Spend your money on a good-quality traditional mattress. It will be much more comfortable than the Sleep Number bed and will cause you less grief.

I bought a queen-sized sleep number 5000 about six months ago.
While assembling it, my husband and I joked about buying a $2,000 air mattress but decided to give it a try anyway. Well, we would have been better off sleeping on our$90 Aero Bed.
The "air chambers" are narrow inflatable pillows similar to a child's pool raft toy. Oh, and only one of ours actually stays inflated. We've called the Sleep number company several times and they have resisted sending us new parts, claiming that maybe the foam padding in the bed is shifting as opposed to the air chamber deflating. Uh. . . no.
The bottom line? My husband, bless his heart, allows me to sleep on the one moderately comfortable side of the bed (it's very difficult for him, a 6'3'' guy, to even stay on the tiny, narrow inflated portion of the bed). He sleeps on the couch, which he claims is much more comfortable than the bed and doesn't hurt his back as much. Since I'm only 5'2'' and 115 pounds, I can manage to "balance" on the inflation chamber and sleep on the inflated portion of the bed--as long as I don't shift or change position at all while I'm sleeping. Otherwise, I wake up lodged in the "canyon" between the inflation chambers and have a huge backache to show for it.
I would not recommend purchasing this bed. It is expensive, poorly made, only moderately comfortable (certainly not the comfy cloud of a dream bed promised in the commercials)and comes with poor customer support.
