Pros: Courteous folks to deal with and "select comfort" for about 10% of the warranty period.
Cons: Expensive, degrading design. Hills and valleys develop.
The Bottom Line: I would definitely NOT order the dual-chambered model -- system develops a valley between the 2 chambers causing sleep partners to roll towards the middle.

| tvino's Full Review: Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 5000 |
My wife and I (both traditionalists) decided to take a chance on a sleep number bed (dual chambers), based upon the compelling TV ads. After plunking down more than $2K our bed arrived and was courteously and professionally set up. No issues with the ordering process -- no issues with the setup (both experiences were pleasant and commendable). First nights sleep was "euphoric" and so were many nights thereafter. After about a year, however, the goddess of sleep (or the demon of Stearns & Foster) started to inflict punishment upon us. An increasingly deep valley formed between the chambers and, though my wife and I are very much in love, each of us kept rolling towards the middle from what seemed to be a ridge in the center of each of our chambers. And the problem got increasingly worse. The problem was reported to the good folks at Select Comfort. The first call resulted in them sending a "chamber lift" to be installed under and between the two chambers (I can't believe that they charged us for shipping it!) -- essentially the "chamber lift" was a piece of foam. The "chamber lift" helped a bit, but only for a short while. Two "chamber lifts" and one center foam insert later, the problem persists. What a shame! There is definitely a problem with engineering for longevity of the dual-chambered system -- beyond a doubt! The single chamber system may be better, but I would definitely avoid the dual-chambered system, if not the concept completely. At this stage I would rather sleep like a Mountain Gorilla on a bed of foliage. When you spend north of $2K for a sleep system you should only have to buy it and dispose of it a decade later -- not continue to maintain it with "chamber-lifts" and other pieces of foam. Long live Stearns and Foster!
