Pros: It's a good idea in concept ...
Cons: Quality is not there for the price.
The Bottom Line: I would think you could get a much more comfortable mattress for half the price.

| ktsurly's Full Review: Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 7000 |
My husband and I purchased a queen-size Select Comfort 7000 model a little under a month ago. We opted to have their Home Delivery people come out and set up the bed for us. They were polite and courteous, but I was surprised at how noisy the set-up was -- lots of hammering for at least 15 minutes.
The first two nights on the bed were great - I woke up rested and without back pain. After that, however, we both started becoming very uncomfortable in the bed. I noticed that our sleep numbers would go down in the night, creating a "taco" sensation (if you've ever been camping and slept on an air mattress with a slow leak, you know this feeling!) that would then result in back pain and neck discomfort. My husband would wake up uncomfortable and try to reinflate the bed, which in turn would wake me up as the pump turned on. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the hoses to no avail.
These are minor issues, but they were also a factor in our displeasure with the bed: I'm always cold, but since getting this bed I've woken up feeling very overheated and sweaty every night, even with a fan blowing on me. Also, to get out of bed, you have to roll over the hard-ish edge of foam, and it's not comfortable to sit on to put on your shoes.
I talked to associates at our local Select Comfort store about the problems we were having, and they didn't seem at all shocked about the deflation issue. They suggested that I call Select Comfort customer service about getting a new pump and said that they would extend the 30-day trial period to accommodate us. We ultimately decided that if a $2500 bed was already uncomfortable and malfunctioning after a week, we wanted to cut our losses.
My experience with Select Comfort customer service was fine. As I expected, they did try to do a lot of convincing me to accept a new pump, but they weren't obnoxious about it.
The return options they gave me were as follows:
* pay $200 for SC Home Delivery to come out and remove the bed, box everything up, and ship it back
* buy prepaid UPS labels from SC and then box and ship the bed back ourselves
* box and ship everything back ourselves without purchasing prepaid UPS labels from SC
They called me to schedule the pick-up, which was nice. I was expecting to have to hound them for an appointment.
UPDATE: Select Comfort credited the full amount (minus the accessories we'd purchased, which are not returnable) back to our credit card within two weeks of our having the company come out to box up and ship back the bed.
