Pros: Comfortable. Best sleep I've had in years.
Cons: Cost too high for what I had to modify.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this bed. It's worked for me and I'm very picky.

| katmeup7's Full Review: Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 7000 |
I had purchased 3 (count 'em) new traditional expensive mattresses in 10 years...Serta, Simmons and lastly a Sterns n Foster. None of them held up more than a couple of years before I was a miserable sleeper again. I have chronic back and neck pain, and had cervical spine surgery about 6 years ago. When my last $2500 mattress was causing me pain every night, I decided to look elsewhere, and even though I had looked at Select Comfort previously and rejected it, I decided to try again given the 30 day guarantee. A doctor friend recommended the bed and said he and his wife loved theirs. I spent a couple of hours in the store before deciding on the 7000 model. The lower models just seemed cheap and uncomfortable. Once delivered, I spent the first two weeks ready to send it back. I couldn't find my number. I started at 70 and worked my way downward. I've always enjoyed a harder bed, but I was used to sleeping on a pillow top, and this was a far cry from that. I was awakening with sore ribs!! Thus began my quest to make the Select Comfort work for me. First of all, there wasn't nearly enough padding in the bed. I went to Macy's and bought a second foam insert and put it inside the bed. That helped, but not enough. I bought another polyester filled cotton topper at Macys and put it on the top of the bed. Finally! Sweet relief! This eliminated the cooling effect of the Outlast mattress material, but I could not sleep on top of it comfortably. Each week I kept lowering the sleep number. After a couple of months, I found my "sweet spot" and to my surprise, it's 20. I lie down on the bed each night when it's set at 100. I let it go to 20, and within a few minutes I'm sound asleep. I used to wake up with tingling arms and hands. No more. I used to toss and turn. No more. I used to wake up with low back pain. No more. I generally awaken the way I went to sleep. It makes me wonder if I move at all during the night, but since I sleep alone, I have no idea. Some mornings I feel more rested than others, but of course there are a lot of variables besides the bed at work. In the end, it's still an overpriced air mattress. I don't think it's worth the money, and if I had it to do over again, I would buy from a different company that is probably equal or better in quality and half the price. But I can't complain about the way I'm sleeping at this point in my life. It was worth every penny, which turned out to be almost $3000. Recently I purchased an Outlast mattress cover, and the cooling effect has reminded me what I was missing by having to cover the Outlast mattress on this bed with a comfortable topper.
