Pros: Fun to play with your "sleep number"
Cons: Lower back pain at ANY sleep number- wakes me up at night!
The Bottom Line: Do NOT buy this mattress. But, if anyone out there DOES want one, they can have mine... because I'm DONE with it!

| nosleepseattle's Full Review: Select Comfort Sleep Number 4000 Traditional Bed |
I was initially elated to get the sleep number bed. While pregnant, I had many sleep problems. I blamed a lot of it on the old mattress we had and so as a gift, my husband ordered us a sleep number. wow! I was excited to start sleeping better! For the first month- which is the trial period- I had just delivered our baby girl and so was taking some pain medications, getting up 4-5 times per night to feed the baby, and was napping a lot suring the day for short periods of time. Therefore, during the trial period, I thought the bed was great. It was afterall, a new toy! And it was fun to play with the "sleep number". Finally, after a year of getting up with the baby, our little girl decided to start really sleeping at night. Now she stays in her crib 8-9 hours at a time.....which means that we can sleep, too!!! But....now I've suddenly started having back pain. This is something new for me. Even during pregnancy I didn't have real back pain. Joint pain was the norm for me, but lower back pain has never been an issue for me...until NOW. Now that I CAN sleep for 7+ hours at night I'm being woken up several times per night because I'm feeling deep pains in my lower back! My husband has helped me try to find a comfortable position over and over, but it's just not possible. My hip seems to be sinking into the mattress and making my spine have an unnatural bend to it. I've slept at EVERY sleep number and I can't get comfortable. It's been 6 weeks now that I've finally gotten our baby to sleep!!! And now I CAN'T!!! I'm up to a year and 3 months of improper sleep- night after night. So....like any educated woman, I've tried different supports in several locations on the bed. I'm now trying to place pillows and towels under my waist to keep my spine aligned. And, of course, I first called Select Comfort to see what they could do for me. What a big joke. As soon as you pass the 30-day trial period it's "bye bye" customer satisfaction. After 3 phone calls I got them to send out new air chambers- ours seemed to be leaking. They would not, under any circumstance, accept a return or exchange. I should add here that the first time I called was during the second month of ownership. MY husband began to feel uncomfortable first, so we called. No help. Now after a year, it's really a lost cause.
We spent a lot of money to buy a fad. $1900 is a lot for a "sleep system" that doesn't pass the most basic criteria for comfort and support. Don't buy into a passing fad....JUST PASS ON THIS ONE.
