I hurt my back
a few years ago and one day went and bought a top of the line inner spring mattress, which worked for me but was too firm for my wife. After a few years of feeling bad for my wife's discomfort (and my back had healed up) and hearing ad after ad about the great select comfort mattresses, we ordered one. It seemed like a great idea to be able to adjust the mattress firmness. Well, the ads are way better than the mattress. What you get (and we sprung for the expensive pillowtop version) are two small air chambers. surrounded by foam blocks on the outside, and separated by a foam strip in the middle. My wife and I like to sleep cuddled up to each other (that's kinda' one of the reasons we got married) which puts us in the middle of the bed. Right on top of the stupid foam divider. No matter how you adjust the air in the individual sides of this mattress, you end up sleeping on the edge of one of the air chambers and falling into the crack created by the foam separator in the middle. Now if you go to bed and lay like a pine log in one position all night you might just be able to position yourself on "your" side of the bed and adjust the air to make it comfortable. If you and your partner want to use the entire bed surface, better skip the airbed and get a good innerspring mattress. I would never buy a Select Comfort mattress again. We gave our old mattress away; now I wish I had it back.
