Good review???-must be a new purchase!

We purchased our Select Comfort mattress in April, 2005. The pump that inflates or deflates the mattress to reach the correct sleep number stopped working fifteen months after we purchased the bed. Select Comfort replaced the pump. Fifteen months later, the new pump is broken. Now we have to pay $144.00 and shipping for a replacement of the replacement pump. Read all of the warranty very carefully!!!! The last section of the warranty is "Limitations" and item number 6 out of 7 says, "Repair or replacement of a product or component under the terms of this limited warranty in no way lengthens the limited warranty period." What this means is that if they replace a defective part of your mattress system, your warranty on that new part goes back to the original date of purchase of the bed. What it doesn't say is that the new replacement part only has a 2 month warranty for coverage at no cost to the purchaser. They also don't tell you that a pump costs $440.00. They say that it is highly unusual for pumps to fail, especially for 2 to fail in 3 years. Really??? Not according to other reviews it isn't. If only I had read them before we purchased this very expensive mattress.
We rarely ever use the pump because the bed is not comfortable anymore no matter what number it is set on. We have learned to live with that sad fact because we can't afford to replace this mattress, but now my husband's side of the bed is slowly deflating and can't be adjusted without another pump. If you are reading this because you are thinking of purchasing a Select Comfort mattress, consider this: there is a reason that their warranty makes the owner increasingly responsible for payment of defective parts. Read the warranty-every word-and give careful consideration to the rather complicated formula they use to determine how much you are going to be paying for their defective merchandise. Does this sound like a company that stands behind the quality of the product it sells?
