Sleep Number bed 4000 model wouldn't buy again.

Pros: Easy set up.
Cons: Uncomfortable. Expensive. Uncomfortable (bears repeating).
The Bottom Line: Would not recommend as comfort DOES NOT LAST.

I researched this bed ad nauseum before buying because of the price. I'm overweight and have some back problems but nothing too bad. I was just looking for a bed that I could make firm on the nights I needed that and soft on the nights I wanted that so this bed seemed to fit the bill. Ordering was easy and set up, even alone, was a breeze. For the first few months I thought I had hit the jackpot and was very pleased. Then, everything changed. I started noticing my back problems had gone from minimal to quite bad. I started waking up with my sternum hurting and neck pains. Plus, I wasn't sleeping the entire night through anymore. I thought it was me because I couldn't believe it would be the "perfect" bed. I ended up going out of town and staying in 3 different motels over the course of about 3 months and, lo and behold (and much to my dismay given the cost of my sleep number bed) I slept the whole night through and woke up with no back pain or neck pain or any other pain. The first time it happened I thought I was just tired enough from travel to sleep anywhere. By the third time it happened I realized my perfect bed had become the bed from you know where. Like other reviewers, I find myself still with the bed because it cost so much money and I can't bring myself to get rid of it before I get my money's worth. Stupid I know as it's so uncomfortable but I don't have any money trees in my yard so feel I'm stuck with the bed for now. However, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else because while it was a dream bed at first, it became a nightmare within a year.
