| RTHperfect's Full Review: Select Comfort Ultra Mattress |
The title says it all, this bed is so great because you can change the setting of the bed within seconds. Let's say you get home and your very tired and you lay down on your bed and it's just to firm. No problem! all I have to do is lower my sleep number to the right setting and i'm off to sleep. You can't do that with a traditional bed!
As you all know, there are some days where you want an incredibly soft bed and other days where it has to be plywood, the select comfort bed makes all this possible with the touch of a button. With traditional matresses, you have to just "tough" it out. Also, with the select comfort bed, you can choose dual chambers or single chambers. The dual is great because you and your sleeping partner can have completely different settings, so both of you sleep great!
I first heard of this bed a couple years back when the store opened at my local mall. I didn't think anything of it, until a few years later, I went to visit my Aunt, and she had one. I laid on it and I was hooked. The thing that really got me was that all I had to do was push a button to get the correct support. I have found that my typical sleep number is 30.
Your sleep number
Everybody has a sleep number. A sleep number is a number between 0 and 100 (100 being the hardest). The sleep number is basically the amount of air you want in the bed. The bed counts in fives (0, 5, 10...etc), I know 5 seems like to much of a difference, but I never found it to be a problem. Anyway, One of the most important reasons for having a select comfort sleep number bed is the air. Sleeping on air has been proven to be the best because air forms to your body so you don't have pressure points (which is what causes back pain in the morning). sleeping on air is also important because it keeps your spine straight so you have a much less risk of getting back pain/diseases.
Now adays, there are several companies selling look-alike select comfort beds. These beds are nice, but they don't have the same technology that Select comfort has. Select comfort (as i said above) uses sleep numbers, rather than just a pump with buttons. This is important because with the numbers, you can always set your bed back to exactly the way you want it, unlike the others look-alike models.
This is what I found out at the select comfort dealer! Anyway, after I learned all the important reasons to have a select comfort bed, I ordered one! I ordered a model 5000 (the newer version of the ultra series), full model, pillowtop, and a single chamber. I sleep alone, so I decided to go with the single chamber. The dual chamber isn't very good for one person because there is a divider in the middle which can annoy your back at night, but with the single chamber, there is no divider.
First night
The first night on the select comfort bed is experimental, you have to feel how it is for a few days, decide if it's to hard, or to soft, and eventually (after about a week), you will find your sleep number. Some people have one sleep number and never change it, or some change there sleep number every night. I change mine a lot, depending on how i feel. But one thing I know is, I will always wake up without backpain!
Select comfort comes with a 20 year warranty too, so anything that breaks on the bed will be replaced for free. If something on the bed is defective, they will replace it for free. but if you broke it, forget it!
Models
Select comfort has four models:
3000 (classic series)
4000 (Elite series)
5000(Ultra series)
7000(I don't remember what this one was)
All come in either twin, full, queen, or king. I think some even come in California King now, I'm not sure though. Anyway, all the models can either have dual or single chambers, except, I think the twin is just a single.
There is one con, this bed is a pain in the #$& to pay for, they are very expensive, but you have to remember, the bed lasts about ten years longer than a traditional bed.
Anyway, This bed has been a life safer for me, I finally wake up well rested, and feelin good!
