miller1611's Full Review: Selsun Blue Dandruff Shampoo Medicated Treatment 1...
I have always been lucky in my life not to have a reason to purchase dandruff shampoo. I guess my scalp is pretty healthy, so I have not been acquainted with Selsun Blue until recently.
As fate would have it my one month old son started showing signs of cradle cap the very day he went for his one month check up. His pediatrician noticed it before I did it was so little, but by the next day his little head looked rough.
The doctor had suggested I buy and use Selsun Blue on my baby. I sort of thought that was a little strong for such a little one, but I was game and bought it anyway.
I also got a sort of a second opinion from my “sister in law to be”. She is a Physician’s Assistant for a wonderful Dermatologist. When I told her the suggestion, she said oh yeah that would be great and should take care of the problem.
Let me tell you, after only one shampoo with the Selsun Blue the cradle cap began disappearing. After waiting a couple of days and doing it again, it was practically cleared up. Literally almost instantly.
I have decided to use it once a week on him until the bottle is gone and I think that should do it.
Even though I personally haven’t used a dandruff shampoo before, my mother has and I remember her still showing signs of dandruff in her dark hair. And I can tell you she didn’t use Selsun Blue, but she should have.
My use - I have to say I get a little edgy prior to using such an “adult” shampoo on my son. I worry about if he moves suddenly while I am rinsing it out it may get in his eyes. But while in his plastic bathtub in the kitchen sink, squirt only a little larger than a dime sized dollop in my hand after wetting his head with a washcloth. I rub my hands together and gently massage the Selsun Blue into his scalp. I only leave it on long enough to cover the entire head and then I rinse it using the washcloth.
The shampoo is blue and very evident if you miss a spot when rinsing. It doesn’t have a foo foo smell to it either. It smells rather medicinal but the scent does not linger very long after shampooing.
From Selsun Blue - Medicated Formula relief of flaking and itching due to dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, and to help prevent their recurrence. With menthol. Maximum medicated control. Contains Selenieum Sulfide. Available in 4, 7 and 11 ounce bottles.
In the end - The four ounce bottle that we have says it all - Doctor recommended and it works. So I fully suggest if you have anything bothering you about your scalp, by all means try Selsun Blue. A little will go a long way, so don’t let the almost $4 price tag for the smallest bottle deter you from trying it.
Whether you are using it for your baby or yourself give this product a try. (Make sure to ask a doctor before using it on a baby!)
