imcrafty1979's Full Review: Sennheiser HD 212Pro Professional Headphones
I am a radio DJ on an FM punk show here in Dallas, TX, and I must say - I love these headphones! They definitely get the job done! When I found out I got the DJ spot I needed some headphones quick, and didn't have much money to spend. I headed out to my local guitar center and picked these up for about $50. I didn't have much more than that to spend, so the price was right. I picked up my 1/4" adapter elsewhere, cheap.
All quality aside, my favorite feature of these headphones is the long cord. When I'm in the booth and I'm moving around and doing stuff I need to keep my ear on the waves, and I can do just about anything in the little studio we have, and I never have to take them off!
Quality is the most important thing, though, so we'll cover that here. The sound from these headphones is so clear, so clean, (despite being DELIGHTFULLY bassy) that I can turn down the studio speakers, turn up the headphone volume on my board, lay the headphones on the counter, and listen to them and actually enjoy it! They pack a powerful punch! I use my headphones at home too, both with the computer and my little jambox, and the sound is always so great! The highs, the lows, the basslines, vocals...It doesn't matter if its Beastie Boys or Cannibal Corpse - these headphones handle a wide range of sounds and tastes quite well. Very versatile. The packaging boasts "total isolation" - if listening at lower volumes you can still hear other stuff going on around you, and you can definitely hear other stuff going on if you're not listening to anything. I think this is more of a pro than a con. If I have my stuff turned low it's because I need to know what others around me are saying. If I want total isolation, I'll just turn it up!
Comfort! Style! The phones are a nice silver color, and the outside of the ear pieces have a black ring going around where the ear pieces meet the head piece. They're stylish, but not gaudy or ugly. The headpiece, on each side, has the Sennheiser logo and HD 212Pro insignia. They're even marked L and R, so you don't put them on backwards! Even if you do get them on backwards, you'll know it, b/c they won't fit right! They're designed to be worn correctly! The left side even has 3 braille-like dots above the L to help you out. The underside of the top of the headpiece is padded in much the same way the inside of the ear pieces are, so they fit well on your head and feel good. The earpieces do swivel a bit, and are somewhat adjustable. I have little ears, and my ears fit completely inside the earpads. There is an extra, thin layer of foamyness between the pads and the actual speakers, I suppose it filters and helps insulate. The connector on the end of the cord is the standard 1/8" but converts well with the aforementioned 1/4" adapter. I use a stereo-to-stereo adapter with my headphones in the studio.
I highly recommend these headphones, and I've just about demanded my staff get their own just like mine!
UPDATE - as of july 8th the headphones are doing great. I love them, and use them more than just in the studio. I even took them to the ER, along with a backpack full of CDs, a copy of Crime and Punishment, and my discman. For ten hours I was happy.
