sindog's Full Review: Sennheiser HD 212Pro Professional Headphones
I purchased these headphones in December of 2004 for the sole purpose of taking them when I traveled. My wife and I travel, at times a great amount, and I always have to have some type of electronic toy to entertainment me on the flight. These headphones have been all that could want from a pair of headphones and they are still one of my smartest buys in years.
I have used these many times on planes and I have to say, buy them!! Just about the only sound they do not drown out is the sound of the engines but even that is still minimal. Do make note, that I like my music loud, so although, it is not at maximum volume, it is usually at least two-thirds the way. However, I believe even at low volumes, they will do fine. When I share a movie with my wife, she likes the volume lower and I can still hear fine without the outside distractions. The ear cups are very comfortable and they headphones are light. After a movie, you will probably need to give your ears a little air, but for me, it is right back on after maybe a minute.
With music, I like bass and I play bass so I like to be able to hear the bass lines as best as I can and these headphones definitely deliver in this area. However, besides the thumping lows, the highs and mids are also very well balanced. Even with movies, you can seemingly hear every little detail and it is very crisp and clear.
My truest test came on a one-stop flight to Vegas, both with a crying child on board. I watched movies on both flights with no disturbances. Every rare moment, the cry would hit a pitch I might hear, but it still was not a bother because it was so short. On the other hand, my wife decided not to bring along her headphones and let us just say, her time on those flights was much less enjoyable.
Also, in other reviews I have read, it is mentioned that these are too bulky to travel with, but I have a laptop backpack and they fit in the front pocket just fine. I carry so many things in that backpack when I travel and I have never had a problem throwing these in there with everything else. If you are carrying a decent bag with you and nothing the size of a standard purse, you should be fine traveling with these.
In summary, I have used these headphones with my MP3 player, my laptop, my portable DVD player and even my bass guitar amp and I have to say that they always excel beyond my expectations. I can always rely on them and they have never let me down. I had never purchased or even heard of Sennheiser products before this buy, but would easily go back to them again. The price was great and the product even better. If you want a quality set of headphones, I would suggest the PRO212s. You can not go wrong!
