The Bottom Line: The MX75 is a great headphone piece for the person with an active lifestyle. Although sound quality is not perfect...it's crisp enough to enjoy your music. Go Green.

I’m an active runner and I’ve been looking for a set of headphones that don’t always fall out of my ear and that the noise gets canceled out once the sweat starts to pour. I’ve tried different brands (including the ones that came with my iPod nano) and they all performed poorly. Within one mile of my run (I run more than 5 miles) I would have to start adjusting the ear pieces and blowing into them because the sweat goes into the ear pieces and I’m not able to hear anything from that piece.
I did a lot of research on-line and I came across the MX75. I wasn’t looking for anything dramatic. Just something that played my music, stayed in my ear, and didn’t malfunction when sweat got between my ear drums and the ear piece. When I read about the MX75 I decided to give it a try so I went ahead and paid $30.59 for the headphone from NewEgg.com (that’s with shipping and taxes included).
The first thing I noticed when I opened the UPS packaging was the green “Kermit the Frog” color it came in. I knew before ordering the headphone that it came in green but I didn’t know how BRIGHT green the piece was. I kept laughing to myself after imagining how funny these things would look on me but I eventually got over it and moved on.
Upon opening the actual packaging this is what I found that came with the headphones:
1. 3 pairs of different rubber adapter sets for the Twist-To-Fit system (there are 3 pieces for each pair of rubber adapters – 9 pieces all together)
2. 3 pairs of different ear adapters for the actual ear pieces (one of the pairs is a set of foam ear adapters in case you want to use them)
3. Cable clip
4. Rubber carrying case
I was please to discover that the length of the cable from the ear pieces to the audio plug was long. When I run I like to clip my iPod nano behind my waist. With other headphones that I’ve used the cables were to short that the headphones would be yanked out of my ears or I would have to carry my nano…and I hate carrying anything during my run.
I then began attaching the rubber and ear adapters to the ear pieces so that I can finally see how the Twist-To-Fit system works. Believe me when I say (and what you read in the reviews) that it DOES take some time to get use to the system. You definitely have to try out the different sizes of rubber adapters to see which one fits snuggly when you twist the ear piece into your ear. Even when you think you’ve found the right fit the outcome might be different once you get into your workout routine.
Once I found the pieces that felt right I finally took these bad boys out for a “Test” run. I was a little disappointed to find out that both ear pieces began to slip out 1 mile into my run (I was using the smallest ear adapters of the 3). I quickly assumed that I had wasted my money on these ear phones but I did noticed that I was still able to hear music through all the sweat I was producing. I didn’t have to blow into the ear pieces to get the sweat out. And that was a HUGE plus for me. My disappointment immediately turned into joy as well as determination to find the right ear and adapter pieces to fit in my ear.
I also noticed that the sound quality was pretty darn good (even through all the sweat). The bass could’ve definitely used some more UMPH. It’s ample…but I wouldn’t call it adequate. The treble is at a good level and my music comes in crisp n’ clear. There is no noise cancelation with these headphones but when you’re a runner it’s best that way. Even though you want your music to sound sweet you still want to be aware of your surroundings. It’s nice to know when a car (or anything else for that matter) is coming behind you before crossing the street.
After my run I tried on different adapter and ear pieces and waited until my next run to try them out. To my delight I finally found the right combination that held the ear piece in its place. Even when I sprinted hard they ear pieces never fell out. But I did find another minor annoyance…
I found (to me at least) that the cord between the right and left ear pieces is a little too long than most in-ear headphones I’ve used. Every time I run I always have that cord sticking out of my shirt (sometimes it’s even sticking up) and I look like I have some skinny snake coming out of the back of my head. I’ve tried using the cable clip to remedy that problem but I’ve gotten to point in where I’m just glad that I finally found a pair of headphones that work the way I want it to.
So am I happy with purchasing the MX75? Absolutely! Unless you’re craving precision in the quality of your music I definitely would recommend this product to anyone looking for a set of earphones that stays in place and fits comfortably while you’re in motion.
