Pros: Portable, sturdy, nice design.
Cons: Pricey, hassle to fill, leaked inside my shaving kit.
I used to throw a bottle of cologne into my shaving kit whenever I traveled. I had the unfortunate experience of finding out the downside to that method last year. The better part of a fifty dollar bottle of cologne drained inside my luggage. Not only was I out the fifty dollars, but my shaving kit and clothing were drenched in cologne. The smell came out of the clothing, but I had to ditch the shaving kit.
My wife suggested that we visit Sephora to buy an atomizer for future travel. Sephora had two choices to offer me. A pink atomizer that sprays the cologne (which I prefer) or a black roller ball type. I opted for the roller-ball, but would have preferred the spray type. The atomizer has a secure cap that fits snugly and is unlikely to come loose. If the cap did manage to separate, the cologne would not likely leak out of the roller-ball, but if it did, the amount of cologne involved would be minimal.
Both atomizers were ten dollars, which I found to be a bit on the expensive side, but appeared to be par for the course for products at Sephora. They feel durable and well made. The atomizer also takes up much less room in my shaving kit than the full bottles I was in the habit of taking. All things considered, the atomizer met several needs while eliminating potential problems.
Filling the atomizers would be easy for anyone using perfume or cologne that comes in a container with a removal top. Most of the brands that I purchase do not have a removable top. The only way I have found to effectively move the cologne from one container to the other is by continuously pumping the spray nozzle. It is not the most effective method, but did not result in much wasted fragrance (I'm sure a small amount evaporated during the process).
It would seem like a lot of trouble to go through in order to carry a more portable and stable cologne container, but the benefits outweigh the negative aspects. Although only ten dollars, the price seemed a bit steep to me, but not outrageous. The process of filling the atomizer is more an issue of the type of bottle I am moving it from and not the design of this product, so I won't deduct for that. Not wasting fifty dollars worth of cologne (and having to throw away another shaving kit) makes this product worth buying.
UPDATE: A few months ago, my rollerball also leaked into my shaving kit. While it didn't result in a fifty dollar loss, it still made my toothbrush taste like Versace. I had to replace most of the items in my shaving kit. I have since switched to the Travelo Genie-S Refillable, which is much easier to refill, and much more secure. I am adjusting my rating of this product to two stars with a non-recommendation. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
