| JediKermit's Full Review: Sequence Game |
This game comes in a boring white box. It was given to us as a wedding present by my wife's aunt and uncle, and I remember tossing it aside, thinking, "hunh". Sequence. Never heard of it. Who cares? A few months later, we finally busted it open, and played it. I guess it's been a family game of my wife's family for years, and she grew up playing it. We never had it in my family, so I wasn't that interested in it, but Melissa kept pushing me to play it, so we did.
First of all, I'm not really all that bright when it comes to games of strategy and skill. My idea of playing "Risk" is just to throw wave after wave of people at the opposition until all of my guys are dead.
Secondly, I fear change and new things, so the idea of learning a new game didn't appeal to me. But, I decided to try it.
I LOVE SEQUENCE!!!! It took me only a few rounds to get the hang of things, and soon I was kicking butt. It was sweet. It's a weird combination of rummy and Connect Four, with wild cards and chips and blocking moves and all sorts of different strategies. We spent several hours playing that first night, and we've done it again several times since then. Every game is different, and even though the basics of the game are easy to master, every time you play it will be a challenge. You can also play with multiple teams, and multiple players on different teams. It's a lot of fun. Her family has Sequence Wars at family reunions--I'm kinda scared of that, but I'm willing to jump in and try it.
I'd recommend this game for children as young as 9 or ten, and then all the way up to 120, if you've got people in your family that old. Great for parties, it's a quick game to master, and doesn't get boring like some other games do--the challenge remains.
