| asti99's Full Review: Serendipity 3 |
I have been to Serendipity four times and have learned a few tricks that I will pass on. First try and make a reservation, they only take phone reservations and they only take a few per a certain time, from what I saw they take about five per hour. If you can't get a reservation which most can't be there at 11:00am to get in line and yes the line almost makes it down the street to Bloomingdales. They open at 11:30 and if you are there before it opens you have a great shot of making it in right away. The reason I am telling you all this is because I have been told a two hour wait up until a half hour wait.
The place is small and people insist on waiting in the small vestibule which makes it difficult to get to the host/hostess. There is a upstairs and downstairs with I would have to say on a average they have twenty to twenty five tables all together. It is decorated with all kinds of funky stuff, but it's fun and the tiffany lamps are beautiful.
The wait staff here is a hit and miss. I have never had bad service but on a few visits I would say average at best. They are busy and it is hard to get their attention. This is obvious a production place the faster they get you out the sooner new people get in.
The food is what makes it worth the while. The irish soda bread chicken sandwich is one of the best things I have ever tasted. The white meat chicken salad is so flavorable and the bread so yummy, I highly recommend this. The cheeseburger is ok, and the BLT on challah bread was a delight, I enjoyed that tremendously. Now for the best part the frozen hot chocolate. This is a dream, it has handmade whipped cream on top and the chocolate is so good. We tried the peanut butter frozen hot chocolate the last time and it was even better, save room for these tasty treats. The price is ok for NYC a meal for the three of us was around $50.00.
