I love this place - - it emphasizes artistic crazyness in a confined space, it uses creative names for its menu items, and most of all it places eye candy (or "eye scream") everywhere around you.
From the moment I walked into Serendipity 3, I knew it was "cute". The tile was black and white checked, when I looked ahead I could see chandeliers in the background reflected by mirrors and people sitting under a fake tree on an "outside" table indoors.
This was definetely an ice cream parlor like no other. It didn't have the 1950's parlor look, but rather a look all its own. To my left were glass cases filled with Serendipity 3 memorabilia - - take stuff home with you - -such as metal frozen hot chocolate pins from $40 dollars and up. To my left there was the cash register, and as we waited for a table the distance between me and the cash register became smaller as people came in from the cold to eat...ice cream (?).
When we finally sat down, our waiter was attractive and flirty. He brought us waters and quickly left us alone and ran upstairs to serve someone else. We only had so much money, and we knew we wanted a dessert so we split a veggie burger (which was only all right considering it was $10.00) and ordered an apple pie sundae for dessert.
As cute as the waiter was, the decor, even the people around us, the ice cream was a little overrated. The apple pie sundae was far too sweet to finish and the apple pie was more crust than apple. The vanilla ice cream was average - - more for people who like solid textured ice cream rather than soft - - and the caramel gave it the overpowering sweetness. I bought the frrrrozen hot chocolate mix to try at home and I found the same problem - - tout sweet.
I really liked Serendipity 3 even though the food was only average. I would not say that the ice cream was awful, just when you expect too much, sometimes you are dissappointed. I would go back though. The waitstaff was friendly and it would be a great place to take someone to celebrate their birthday.
Besides, it is called Serendipity, so naturally it would be SWEET.
Food: The ice cream is overrated.
Service: Excellent but crowded so they are in a rush.
Decor: Very artsy/cute! Loved it!
Special Notes, Tips or Menu Recommendations: Go slightly early to avoid lunch/dinner rush. You will have to wait. Bring insulin, just kidding
