I have never had a real "meal" at Serendipity's. Instead, I usually just go for desert. And boy, do they know desert!
The classic Serendipity desert is Frozen Hot Chocolate, which sounds odd, but is so good, they patented it! I usually go for the monster sundaes with loads of whipped cream and cherries and sprinkles!
This restaurant also has an amazing decor, with Tiffany lamps, and lots of odds and ends cluttered around. It is two stories, and waiters and patrons are forever bumping into eachother. The atmosphere is definitely not one for being alone, but it's a great place to go hang out and chat.
I am not sure if reservations are accepted or not. Most people check in, and then leave for awhile because there is always a wait. Generally it lasts about 30 to 40 minutes, but at peak hours it can be longer. While you wait you can look at the decor and also at the assortment of Beanie Babies they have for sale. These attracted my interest, and I spent quite a while doing a mental inventory of their selection.
I would recommend this restaurant for friends looking for a good time, and families, but you shouldn't bring really little kids. They'd probably spill a lot of things and get in the way. It's not exactly the place you can let a five year old run around.
