| cletta1201's Full Review: Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress |
The last mattress set that I bought lasted me a little over a year before it became a mess of lumps, bumps and sags that was more painful to sleep on than the floor. Knowing that I would not be able to go cheap again, I set out to find an affordable mattress that not only was comfortable, but also had a good warranty. I also knew that I didn’t want to have to flip my mattress because I generally find that to be an annoying task.
Because I’d done a bit of research at Epinions as well as at other places around the internet, I had narrowed my choices down to Simmons Beautyrest and Serta Perfect Sleepers. Upon arriving at the store and checking out prices and what was on sale – I realized that the Serta was more our (the boyfriend and I) speed in regards to bang for your buck.
What I got for my money was the Serta Perfect Sleeper Nightstar (Special Bethany Edition). The mattress is very firm but cushioned by the ’contour comfort” pillow top which is filled with ”pillofill” which is supposed to not shift or bunch through the life of the mattress. The pillow top was really just a nice amenity and something I didn’t necessarily have to have, but it does guarantee that I don’t need to completely flip the mattress (it is recommended to rotate).
Miracle Wire Innerspring is a system of continuous rows of wire that conforms to the body. The unique way that the coils are set up is supposed to reduce the amount of movement you feel if and when your partner shifts. This was really important to me as my partner moves a great deal in his sleep and I do notice the difference with this mattress in comparison to others. Easy Care refers to that no-flip feature that I really like which is essentially a layered mattress (on the inside) manufactured to increase not only comfort but the durability of the bed.
The box spring to me was the most important thing as I researched I found people are much more likely to have problems with lack of support with the box spring than with the mattress and a poor box spring can ruin a great mattress. My perfect sleeper has a triple beam frame (which is patented), twice as strong as normal frames, Serta compares the triple beam frame to the crossbeams, support joints and floorboards on a deck since it is designed in much the same way. Its construction provides maximum support while reducing wear and tear on the mattress.
The warranty on our mattress is 10 years but only includes “normal wear”. There are an extended list of things that they won’t cover compared to the miniscule list of things that they will. However, proper upkeep should find you with not many problems at all.
The real test of any mattress is sleeping on it, which is why I waited until now to review the mattress. We purchased this in April during a sale for $783.73 and we love it. It’s still firm and comfortable as the day we got it home. Perhaps even a bit more comfortable since it has had the opportunity to conform to our bodies. Although we purchased a queen size mattress set, we are already looking to purchase an Olympic queen which would give us 6 inches of additional room as well as spending even a bit more money for a new set. In comparing what you spend on a quality mattress set to the amount of time you spend on the mattress – the benefits greatly outweigh having to plop down so much money.
