It's that time of year again to start cleaning out the toys. Time to get rid of the baby toys and make room for the big boy toys. What amazes me though is as I am coming across some of these "baby" toys, my 4 year old all of a sudden shows interest in these toys again.
One of the first things I came across on the bottom of a toy box was Elmo's Boom Box. While moving the toys around that were on top, I heard this boom box playing some tunes and it wouldn't shut up. So I just had to search for it so that I could keep my sanity.
Elmo's Boom Box
This boom box is designed with little ones in mind. It does not look like Mom or Dads boom box. Instead, this boom box is only about 7 inches wide, 5 inches high, and about 2 inches thick. I am estimating it only weighs about 2 pounds.
The back of the boom box is plain blue and the front of it is white. On the front there is a plastic mold of Elmo, a yellow speaker, an AM/FM dial that has lights, 3 buttons for music, and a big blue ball that serves as an antenna. The top of the boom box acts as a carrying handle.
The 3 colorful buttons on front will each play a different verse to a popular childrens song when pressed. The boom box plays a total 12 different songs. But it only plays 1 verse per song, so you do not have to sit through the whole thing. It also only plays music, there are no words to the songs.
Each of the buttons are made of plastic and stick out about 1/2 inch from the boombox. They are very easy to press, and when thrown in the toy box, toys lying on top of the boom box will make it go off.
Some of the verses to songs it will play include Happy Birthday, Row row row your boat, London Bridge, and my favorite, Frere Jacques. When a button is pressed to play a song, the 3 lights on the dial will blink. The lights are pretty small and most children will probably not even acknowledge the lights.
If you noticed in my description there, there are no buttons for volume control and there certainly is not an on - off switch. But there is a battery compartment, so if you start getting tired of hearing the songs played, you can always take out the batteries.
One thing I was surprised at with this boom box is that Elmo does not speak at all. With our other Elmo toys, Elmo usually does some kind of talking, but this boom box only plays music.
My 4 year old has had this boom box for quite some time now. He enjoyed playing with when he was younger and loved to move around to the music. Now that he is bigger he pretty much forgot about this toy except when I dug it out of the toy box. He played with it for a little while and decided it was too simple for him to deal with anymore.
I used to have this boom box clipped on to his crib when he was younger. You can place a clip (sold separately) through the handle and hang it from a crib or from a stroller to soothe or entertain babies. As the babies grow, you can always remove it from the clip and now they have their own boom box.
Elmo's Boom Box is a cute toy for toddlers. I would recommend this fairly inexpensive toy for your child between the ages of 1 - 3 years old. It is very durable and will give you a few good years of music or torture, whichever you prefer.
