| gamblinfamily's Full Review: Sesame Street - Elmo's Talking Driver |
I am always on the look out for toys that will teach my son and let him have fun as well. The toys of today are so rich in education and colorful in fun. One of the toys I bought my son when he was in his terrible two's (three's, four's etc) was the Elmo's Talking Driver . He has had it a few years now, and believe it or not he still plays with it.
While shopping at Sears one day I heard it. I followed the sound and came upon a small toddler playing with it on the bottom shelf. He was in his stroller but had the toy just in reach. Man was he having a blast with it. When his mom started to walk off without the toy he let loose. I waited for him to settle down before looking at it. I did not want to make him upset again by playing with it as he strolled away.
I picked it up off the shelf and played with it a bit. I was sold! I bought it and surprised my son when I picked him up from Nana Boo Boo's. Opening it and setting it up was easy! Just take it out the box and hand it to your child. It's all in one piece and the batteries are already installed. Can't get any easier!
Gentleman & Gentle Girls! Start Your Engines!
Elmo's Talking Driver is Made by Tyco Preschool Toys featuring some of the Sesame Street Characters. This toy is easily gripped and learned. There won't be any trouble with your youngster trying to figure it out. You might even find yourself sneaking a turn at the wheel!
The toy requires 3 AA batteries. There is a set that comes already in the car, but you might want to pick up extras. Lots of kids play with this item in the store. There isn't really any telling how good the batteries are. You wouldn't want this to stop driving just as your child has started, would you?
Here are the components and what they do :
- BLUE Ignition key turn it right to hear a car engine start up. This Also causes the two blinkers to come on displaying red and green brightly.
- RED gear shifter (just like mommy and daddy's)pull down on it this will make the sound of a car revving the motor.
- RED Button featuring Big Bird saying Buckle Up!
- YELLOW Button features Cookie Monster that says 'ME Drive Car!'
- BLUE Button featuring Ernie that says 'Driving Is Fun!'
- Green Speaker that has wavy lined openings. This is where all the fun sounds come out of.
- Yellow large oval button that has two music notes and the Sesame Street Logo. Pressing this plays some cool tunes! (Just a few notes to a good beat).
- Yellow steering wheel that really turns!
- Blue Horn with Elmo's face on the center. Pressing on the horn causes Elmo to say ' Beep Beep! Coming Through!. This sounds very cute I might add!
- Green Blinker Switch to activate just press down. You will hear a sound similar to a train coming warning. This does not activate individual blinker though. It makes both red and green flash
How my son felt about this toy
It did not take long for Brendan to be absolutely in love with this toy. He played with it all the time as a toddler. He would carry it around the house, when he wasn't in his playpen (explained further down). He drove me nuts at time with the noise, but it grew on me. This taught my son his colors and how a car worked. He loved using his Elmo's Talking Driver on road trips and would pretend to drive just like we did. He felt good about being able to take part in the driving!
The toy has lasted us a few years. Now that he is in school he doesn't play with it as much. But, believe it or not at 6 he still does occasionally take it out for a spin. Shhh! Don't tell him I told you, he might get mad at me for saying that!
How I Feel About This Toy
It was a good purchase, and gave my son lots of happy playtime. It is also a wonderfully sturdy toy. It has withstood countless drops, fit filled throws and even a toss off the top bunk. My son was a pitcher there was no doubt about it. He loved to toss all the toys out his playpen when he was younger. He'd clean that thing out in seconds. Through all his abuse of this toy it only has one scratch at the top of it. It came from when he threw it off the bunk bed and it hit the red paint.
Overall this is a great toy. One thing I did not care for though was Brendan running around saying 'ME DRIVE CAR!'. When I would try to correct him he would insist that cookie monster was right. Says so on my toy Mamma! After we got over that the toy was perfect.
This would be a good gift for Christmas. The toy can be for either a girl or boy. Make your little one smile this Christmas!
